We shouldn't assume that Shaw instantly makes them title contenders.
As constructed they still have issues and if Iggy leaves he'll be walking into a terrible coaching situation.
It would SUCK if he signed on as coach and then Iggy went somewhere else.
The thing we have to look at is if the style he wants to coach would fit the personnel.
Can the Nuggets run the triangle if that's what Shaw is going to run?
Indiana had no "offensive structure" so we don't have much to go on there.
The bigger question is, as constructed could the Nuggets be more than a top 4 seed and a second round team?
The answer is no. Not in the West with OKC, The Spurs, the Clippers and the Grizzlies.
So what we have to look at is what Shaw brings to them. If he's gonna run the triangle you wonder what kind of set it will be, if Iggy is there you'd assume all the offense would run through him as well as facilitating, Is McGee gonna be mature enough to run triangle sets in the post? Can Lawson work as a triangle point guard? How is Gallo coming back from his injury?
The Nuggets are the team in the West I felt with the most uncertain future in terms of contention and where they go. It will take much more than Shaw to fix that.
I wish him the absolute best and would love if he won coach of the year. I just severely doubt that happens with THIS Nuggets team.
What I DON'T want is if Shaw gets a team like this and they do, pretty much what they are capable of, I don't want Shaw to be blamed or to be looked at as the coach that "had right to be avoided" cause that would be very unfair.
Of all the teams Shaw could be hired to, the Nuggets was the one I worried about the most if he went there.
I hope for the best for him!
