We shouldn't assume that Shaw instantly makes them title contenders.

As constructed they still have issues and if Iggy leaves he'll be walking into a terrible coaching situation.

It would SUCK if he signed on as coach and then Iggy went somewhere else.

The thing we have to look at is if the style he wants to coach would fit the personnel.

Can the Nuggets run the triangle if that's what Shaw is going to run?

Indiana had no "offensive structure" so we don't have much to go on there.

The bigger question is, as constructed could the Nuggets be more than a top 4 seed and a second round team?

The answer is no.  Not in the West with OKC, The Spurs, the Clippers and the Grizzlies.

So what we have to look at is what Shaw brings to them.   If he's gonna run the triangle you wonder what kind of set it will be, if Iggy is there you'd assume all the offense would run through him as well as facilitating,   Is McGee gonna be mature enough to run triangle sets in the post?   Can Lawson work as a triangle point guard?  How is Gallo coming back from his injury?

The Nuggets are the team in the West I felt with the most uncertain future in terms of contention and where they go.   It will take much more than Shaw to fix that.

I wish him the absolute best and would love if he won coach of the year.  I just severely doubt that happens with THIS Nuggets team.

What I DON'T want is if Shaw gets a team like this and they do, pretty much what they are capable of, I don't want Shaw to be blamed or to be looked at as the coach that "had right to be avoided" cause that would be very unfair.

Of all the teams Shaw could be hired to, the Nuggets was the one I worried about the most if he went there.

I hope for the best for him!

You right. We do have the best coach in the league right now. What am I thinking? Going to kick everybody's ass in 7 seconds or less!

Not only that, but MDA, who is one of, if not  the GOAT, knows how to teach defense and incorporate his bigs. He is also really great at managing his players minutes. We are truly blessed to have someone like him on our team with the goal of winning a championship.

Phil Jackson is never going to coach the Lakers again as long as the Buss's own the Lakers (I'm also comfortable in saying never again regardless). Anyway congrats to Shaw. Do work!

What makes you say that?

They hired D'Antoni over him. That is as close to [expletive] YOU as one can say to a legend lmao. And their are other good coaches out there. Didn't mean to derail the thread. Phil should be coaching us and I'm glad Shaw finally got a gig. He deserves it.

D'Antoni hangs on and as long as he does next season is an absolute waste of time.

Bizarre to let Karl go, but they're getting a first class reboot in Denver.

Congratulations to Shaw. I believe that at times Shaw is credited with the Indiana defense. I wonder how their defense will look. If Igoudala stays there, and they have Chandler and Faried, I think they will be a good defensive team under Shaw. The offense will be interesting too and if they will be a fast paced team again or not.

A system conducive to the players on the roster?  How novel - take notes Pringles, you've been schooled by Brian Shaw within one day.

Now all that's left is for Shaw to execute it to success and get the personnel to respond.   I'm willing to bet they won't respect him instantly more than they respected Karl.   With the Lakers it'd be instant.  On the Nuggets... not so sure.

So we'll see how long the learning curve takes.  Hopefully he's able to execute it well!

Nuggets To Play ‘Smashmouth Basketball’ Under Brian Shaw

According to the Denver Post, Shaw has made it clear that the Nuggets will play his brand of “smashmouth basketball.”

“Smashmouth means that you are literally going to get your mouth smashed if you’re going against us for a rebound or a loose ball,” Shaw said. “We want to have a nasty disposition, both offensively and defensively.”
