Howard, Gasol, Hill, Clark. We have four bigs. We didn't need to get Kelly, who is perfect for MDA. We might as well trade for Channing Frye.

So are we dealing our hustle player, Hill, or letting go of Clark, who can be a borderline all-star? Kelly will get obliterated at SF.

RD did make a comment about that Ryan Kelly doesn't play defense

So I'll link this article

Duke misses Ryan Kelly's defense most

RealGM's Dan Hanner crunched the comparative numbers for a handful of injury-riddled teams, and what he found about Duke was not exactly what you'd expect. Yes, Duke's offense has taken a slight dip without Kelly. But — turns out — his impact has been felt far more acutely on defense, where the Blue Devils have taken a verifiable adjusted efficiency nosedive — from 82.4 points per game allowed to 95.7.

But we should also be praising Kelly's defense, too. You can see why Kelly's reputation as a defensive stopper is practically non-existent -- before this season, he really wasn't one. Besides, it's not like we're dealing with Dwight Howard. But for 6-foot-11 Kelly moves well, maintains great defensive position, can guard a variety of players, and provides plenty of that nigh-invisible glue that holds disparate defensive parts together. The Blue Devils can't get him back in the lineup soon enough.

So that we can get RD's perspective on why, I'm sure he watched more of Duke than I did this year(lot of it had to do with the fact I had no cable for about 3 months)

RD, why do you think he plays no defense?

Clark is a 3 and Hill is a 4/5

So why would we be getting rid of either if we were getting Kelly?

Just wondering.

if Metta is amnestied Clark becomes our starting 3, who is our backup 3?  if Pau is traded or amnestied, who becomes our backup 4?(Because HIll is gonna start)

Getting Kelly doesn't mean Clark or Hill is gone imo.

Dwight Howard made Ryan Anderson seem like a good defensive player, also. He's not.

I love how they talk about his ability to move. He doesn't move well, especially now that he's having to deal with a foot injury that won't go away.

Ryan Kelly could be a rare 2nd Round pick that can step in and play a specific role right away as a stretch 4 (42% from 3 at Duke last yr.).

Earl Clark is a four. He is most productive at the four, and he played double the minutes there.

if Pau is gone Hill is definitely gonna start, so this guy would likely be the backup 4 in that scenario.

or if Dwight is gone, Hill is gonna start anyway so this guy will be a backup 4 anyway in that scenario.

And if Metta is amnestied we'll have no 3 other than Clark if we can re-sign him.

So he's a Forward that can pass and stretch the floor.

if Pau is gone he'll be our backup as apparently the Lakers are unloading Pau if Dwight returns, if Dwight does no return Pau has to play 5 and we still have no backup 4(as Hill would be moved to starting position)

Easy to see why this move happened.

If Dwight Howard plays well with players like Ryan Anderson wouldn't it be plausible to assume that a player like Kelly compliments him rather than deters him?

and I think the lakers are gonna be playing Clark at the 3, ESPECIALLY if they amnesty metta and keep Dwight.

Because Gasol isn't gonna give up that starting position 4 spot.

Earl Clark will be at the 3...not the 4.  Not as his primary position.

Ryan Kelly is a mix of Luke Walton and Brian Cook, but better defensively than both.

And Ryan Kelly fits PHIL's TRIANGLE more than D'Antoni's system.  I don't know why you would think this is a MDA pick...

Good shooter

Not a freak athlete

High basketball IQ

Good passer

More experienced player

Triangle all of the way.

Ryan Kelly will play off the bench with Clark and Hill.  Hopefully, Metta is gone via amnesty.

Which was my initial reaction, although I've never been a big fan of 7 foot 3 point 'specialists'. Still considering the position of the pick, not terrible.
