If they get Byron Scott, the rest of the league better be scared. They'll be instant championship contenders no question about it.

^ Why do you laugh? That's messed up. He's one of our own.

Bill Simmons @BillSimmons 22 Jun

of the 42 NBA coaches with 400+ wins, Byron Scott has the 2nd-lowest winning percentage (.444).

That might have a lot to do with Scott taking a Cavs job that didn't involve LeBron James.

Yeah, those last few years in Cleveland really screwed his record over.

That's where "numbers" can really mess over a coach.

What is his w/l percentage from when he coached New Jersey and New Orleans?

Actually I stand corrected.

He's coached 13 seasons and has a .500 or better record in just 5 seasons.  He has 6 seasons of .400 or less.

Didn't realize it was that bad.

Alright before Cleveland

New Jersey Nets

2000-2001

26-56

2001-2002(Jason Kidd Arrival)

52-30(Finals)

2002-2003

49-33(Finals)

2003-2004

22-20(fired)

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS(Baron Davis Chris Anderson lead ones)

2004-2005

18-64

2005-2006(Chris Paul arrived)(Katrina incident)

38-44

2006-2007

39-43

2007-2008

56-26 (lost to Spurs in 7 games)

2008-2009

49-33(lost to Nuggets in 1st round)

2009-2010

3-6(fired)

Aside from some REALLY bad teams in 2000-2001 and 2004-2005  He's about a .500 coach, not the best not the worst, but always seems to know how to use a point guard, CP3 and Jason Kidd had their best years under him.   So I can see why the Clippers would have him under their radar, but it's also easy to see why they'd go with Doc.

Over those 10 seasons( if you count 2009-2010) he's had 5 with losing records.   2 were terrible teams so I can give him a pass on those but the others not so much although they did improve as time went on.

Not a terrible coach though, but definitely not the best, if you have a team with a developing point guard(hence why he did wonders with Kyrie Irving and to an extent, Sessions) then he's the guy.  But if you want to take your team to the Championship level you get a Rivers etc.

Since CP3 is already "there" I'd see it why they pass on him in favor of Rivers.

IF the Celtics had gotten Bledsoe as part of the deal I could see Scott becoming coach of the Celtics.

I still could, with Bradley and Rondo there.

WhEN  I see those recors, he had some HORRIBLE team sand had a BAD record.

His best teams were good teams but not championship contenders, so his record thus far as a coach means NOTHING

all I know is Doc Rivers lost 18- 22 games in a row. Thats TOUGH to accomplish. he won a tiitle the VERY  NEXT YEAR

when he had by FAR the best ROSTER in the league.

Yes but in the same breath Byron Scott went 26-56 and then went to the finals 2 years in a row with a team lead by Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin.

I could actually see Scott becoming the next Celtics coach.
