Why do they have a 2-3-2 format for the finals?

I do not get this at all. Ever series is 2-2-1-1-1. Why, just because it is the Finals, it is 2-3-2? I feel the 2-3-2 actually favors the team with the less record. What is significant about this?

Media travel is one reason I know for it. Since it's the Finals, every sports journalist, photographer, reporter, etc. is covering that one series. Having a 2-3-2 format makes traveling less complicated than having to go back and forth.

Seems like a lame reason to me, but I know that's one of the benefits they considered when they were switching from the 2-2-1-1-1 format.

Back in the day when travel was more of a burden and the teams were on opposite coasts it made more sense to just keep the players in one region for longer than usual. Obviously that's not the case anymore, plus San Antonio and Miami weren't that far away anyways haha. But nobody's bothered to change it.

I agree that a 2-3-2 immensely favors the road team ,especially in a tighter series. Because splitting the first 2 puts immense pressure on the number one seed, while the lower seed has 3 straight home games to fully turn the series in their favor, making those last 2 games sometimes irrelevant.

its about travel and distance...limiting east coast to west coast flights...kinda want it back the other way

thats why its just the finals, only time you could have LA to boston, that kinda thing

Van Gundy made some sense during one of his rants. The 232 format was made because it was a pain fly across the country in [expletive]ty commercial flights. These days, players and media fly first class in luxury. What a pain it must be for them to fly.
