Anybody know?

It was always available before when right clicking on a video and now it appears to suddenly be completely gone.

^ A lot of people used to use this option so that the video could pause at the thumbnail/screenshot of the video, which in a lot of cases was an overly attention-grabbing (usually sexual) image. Sometimes uncensored in fact.

you can still stop the buffering ( at any point in the video.)

right click and select "report playback issues" and then close the newly opened tab.

^ Umm, but that's totally different. That's basically the same thing as just pausing the video at any random time from what I see.

The whole point of the stop download option for many people was so that the video would freeze instantly into the thumbnail image of the video like when you initially selected it. Like I said, in some cases for example, sexual images that wouldn't even appear in the actual video, but were there just to get hits & clicks.

I don't know why they would remove it, especially since it could save YT bandwith. But they definitely did remove it.

^ Maybe they felt people abused it too much and perhaps for the wrong reasons.
