If he wants to retire with seven rings, he knows the requirement: take a massive paycut.

Arguably the greatest franchise ever

he kobe wants the new max then he is satisfied with 5 rings lol. Its time for him to take a cut for the team. Sure he's earned it, but its time to play for the team financial wise...hes only got a couple years left

Why?

It's not going to hurt the team, if Kobe signs after the other targeted players bc Lakers have his Bird's Rights.

Kobe doesn't need the new max. He could very well retire after this season.

If he continues, it won't be for money.

I'm not sure how this contract situation ends for Kobe.

All of us would hope for Kobe to take that massive paycut but I don't know if that happens.

I love Kobe, he's one of my favorite players of all time but the fact is that he is a selfish, egotistical individual and I think there's a greater chance of him asking for 15-20 million rather than him ask for $10 or less.

^ I think it depends on Dwight staying.

Kobe seems pretty intent on handing over the reigns and doesn't seem to have a problem having this be Dwight's team when he is going to be on his way out.  So in the 2014 season I think Kobe will acknowledge these things if they come to fruition and if it means signing a big time free agent I don't think Kobe would let that ego or selfishness get in the way of a chance to win another ring.  I think Kobe will get that by any means necessary.   He wants it like no other player and I don't think he would sabotage it if he has the chance.  It would potentially be his final year in the league, the last thing Kobe would want to make it is a waste.

"Bryant had come to rage against the idea that Howard's clownish disposition could overtake the locker room, the Lakers' culture, and had warned Howard that he would never, ever let it happen."
