Shaw's being shunned because everyone knows Shaw is inexorably tied to Phil.

A guy who just retired gets a HC job while BSHAW has been chasing a HC job doesn't have one yet

Damn. I feel bad for Shaw.

I do too.  Seriously what's it gonna take.

They said they wanted the triangle but they aren't hiring Shaw?

After a 5 hour interview Kidd who mentioned interest in the job no more than 72 hours ago is getting the job?

You really are getting to see how some of the other alternative organizations are run.

I'm told Jason Kidd will recruit former Nets coach Lawrence Frank to become assistant.

Getting a good defensive coach as-well possibly

I think this is largely a marketing ploy.

Really dumb. Let him be an assistant first for a while then a coach.

Smart PR move. No one will expect anything of Kidd so any accomplishment will be highlighted, making the Nets FO look like geniuses.

Not agreeing with it, but probably their mindset.

Mike D'Antoni has won as much as Jason Kidd has as a head coach

Patrick Ewing, Brian Shaw and countless others who have paid their dues as assistant coaches or other behind the scienes positions still can't catch their break, while complete newcomers like Kidd and Jackson and the constant recycling of failed NBA coaches continues to thrive in the NBA.

Patrick Ewing still can't catch break.

What do you mean? He just got hired as an assistant coach for the very respectable Bobcats.

Kidd has great communication skill and knows the game as good as any of the best coaches. Kidd has the tools to be a great coach.

If I remember correctly, I thought I saw something about Dunleavey being the only other one back in 91?

Fair or not, maybe part of it too is these teams especially like Brooklyn that wanna' make a splash and grab some headlines prefer to go with a sexier name and you could argue that Brian Shaw just doesn't sound as sexy to the general public.

The continuation of a truly bizarre coaching carousel in the NBA these last couple of years.

If there is any guy in the league who can make the transition from player to coach, it's Jason Kidd.

Brooklyn is a talented team. He's in a good situation. Putting him with a team like Charlotte or Orlando would be a disaster.

Brooklyn is a nice place for him to start. Imagine the effect he had on the Idiots on the Knicks roster (Carmelo and Smith) and multiply it by 10. He knows what he's doing.

However, there's other parts of being a coach and Im not sure what exactly he's bringing to the table in terms of Xs and Os. He needs a very strong staff.
