In what may come as a surprising move to anyone who's taken so much as a passing glance at Will Smith's résumé, the blockbuster-friendly actor has said he is ready to expand outside of his big-budget playground.

During an "After Earth" interview with Digital Spy, Smith said, "It's been an absolute necessity that the movie be a blockbuster, but I think I'm going to start moving out of that and finding more danger in my artistic choices."

His "After Earth" movie completely bombed. It's got a budget of $130 million and only came out with $27 million in its opening and landed in 3rd place.

He should blame his son for hangin' around that Kardashian girl too much. Probably threw his game off.

Most of his movies do pretty well. I havent seen after earth so I cant make a judgment on it. He will bounce back with a hit in not too long.

The concept itself maybe seems too boring. Too isolated. Not enough characters, not enough major events taking place? I haven't seen it, but I'm just guessing based off trailers & what not.

Also though and more importantly, the director is probably most to blame. M. Night Shyamalan or however you spell that [expletive], has been complete crap and overrated for a long time now. You've gotta' wonder how long he's gonna' keep getting green-lighted on big projects. His career started off promising earlier on with films like "The Sixth Sense", "Signs", and arguably "The Village", but other than that, he's had some real bombs and this is just another one apparently.

Can't believe Will basically turned down Quentin Tarantino and an amazing role in Django over this. If he was dumb enough to do that, then I suppose he deserves for this movie to bomb. What was he thinking?

Will should turn his focus to reviving his legendary rap career.

It was just a boring movie and even though he was a part of it it didn't really feel like a Will Smith, he knows this was strictly a project for his son . Granted I think it is gettin more hate than it warrants because apparently his son is disliked alot.

I wish Will Smith (and his family) would give up show business entirely.

Amazingly low-talented one trick pony and he's also a tyrant / prima-donna on set.

"After Earth", directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Will and Jaden Smith.  Somehow a studio thought this was nothing but a good idea.  In a nutshell this stink bomb's existence shows you where the movie industry is at right now.

He's terrible, simply terrible.

THE ONLY reason he has or gets jobs is because of nepotism, a practice that often keeps actual / real talent from ever coming to the forefront.

Need more reasons?

Well most people dislike kids riding on their succesful parents coat tails, he is always socializing with other famous kids that are disliked like Bieber, the Kardashian girls and whoever is todays Hollywood brat pack. And just he doesn't seem to be very humble kid, by rich standards especially.

Shyamalan really shouldn't directing, he has been riding the fame from Sixth Sense long enough.

no interest in seeing this...

i feel like big movie studios need a common sense committee, maybe 20 people...with no underlying interests or biases, no hidden agendas that can look at these things before they spend millions of dollars on them and tell them that they're garbage...

millions of dollars, and hours of people's time could be saved, there are scores of movies i've seen released that could have been avoided if anyone with common sense saw the concept

The way you stop the rash of intensely crappy movies that have been rolled out for the last 15 years is to not go see them.

Hit their wallet and you change their mind.

Nah, Will Smith has had some good movies, especially The Pursuit of Happyness, which stands as a top three of mine.

But this new one, to me, didn't even seem like it was good when I watched the trailer.  Won't bother seeing it...just didn't rake in my interest.
