I hope the assistant search is still on hold because the front office is thinking about firing MDA. But the more logical reason why he hasn't accepted it yet is because he's searching for a head coach gig.

He likely won't get it.

Aside from testing our 2010 team in the western conference finals which was a feat in itself he hasn't been able to replicate that magic unfortunately.   He's not a BAD coach by any stretch but I don't think he'll get a head coaching job, maybe for the Clippers but probably not.  He'll probably be the assistant here if D'antoni remains.  I don't mind that as he's better than Dan.

I'm just more concerned with who our defensive coach would be.

But all this stuff abotu Alvin "had" etc is in past tense.

For SOME reason the coaching searches and stuff has come to a halt when D'antoni was initially trying to finish it fast.  So who knows what's really going on right now.

"had" was a typo by me, title now reflects appropriate verbiage.

We all know what that SOME reason is... And Phil's outburst in the media today is also not a coincidence.  Things about to get really spicy in LA.

Jeanie is key.  She is NEVER involved in bball decisions, but things are a changin in lala land.

What stirred this rumor? An article? "Source?"

Phil is promoting his book.... And every time he does and interview.... He is asked about the Lakers. He has pretty much went from not wanting to coach to saying he would grab one of his people's and help turn the lakers around.. Taking subtle shots and haymakers at Mike D'antoni... It's been on since he interviewed with Cowlon Herd in the A.M..

It was something I caught wind of a while back (see previous pages post).  Certainly nothing to hold your breath over, but I think it has some legitimacy.

So, my talk with Phil helped the Lakers?? Lol... I had an opportunity to speak w/ Mr. Jackson last weekend and shook hands with him etc. Suggested that he should come back and coach LAL... he smurked :-)

So, this means that we still have a chance. I see...

Also I don't know if you guys heard, it was probably lost in others news.

But we DID interview with Nate McMillan

Nate McMillan was only out of work for a year before suitors came calling. Mr. Sonic is scheduled to interview with the Milwaukee Bucks this week in regards to their head coaching gig and will also meet with current Los Angeles Lakers coach, Mike D'Antoni as for a defensive assistant spot.

McMillan led the Sonics to an amazing run in 2005, taking an overachieving team to a 52-30 record and the number three seed in the West. The Sonics would eventually lose to the would be champion Spurs in the West Semis.

McMillan signed with the rival Portland Trailblazers on July 7, 2005. In Portland McMillan had a 266-269 record.

He was also a defensive assistant under US National coach, Mike Krzyzewski since 2006. Winning a Bronze in the World Games and two Olympic gold medals in his stead.

Last week McMillan interviewed with the Detroit Pistons for their head coaching job as well.

This was back on May 7th.

Dunno how we missed it, he's the assistant some were asking for.  Guessing thats why we haven't heard much about it.

So I guess McMill AND Gentry were reached, and Nate interviewed.

So I guess them coming here depends if they secure a head coaching job elsewhere or not first.

You should change the the thread title to Alvin Gentry a potential interim coach for the Lakers.

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

To me it seems like the Lakers are trying to feel out Dwight Howard and see if he wants them to get rid of Mike.  Dwight likely won't tell them that until after July 1 when he meets with all the other teams.  Perhaps the Lakers front office knows Dwight wants to consider all his options (including whether or not bringing in Phil would convince him to stay in LA) before he will commit.

Yep and it's looking like the Clippers(who were also after Nate) are looking to sign Byron Scott.

So they're out.

Leaving just Detroit or Los Angeles.

It looks like he's coming to the Lakers then.
