Alvin Gentry Expresses Interest In Clippers Job

By Ramona Shelburne | ESPNLosAngeles.com

Although Alvin Gentry has a standing invitation to join Mike D'Antoni's staff as an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers next season, he'd prefer to return to Los Angeles as a head coach ... with the Clippers.

"If you look at that job, it's probably the best one out there," Gentry said of the Clippers' vacancy Thursday in an interview on ESPNLA 710. "When you take into consideration the talent level that they have and what they did this year."

League sources have told ESPNLosAngeles.com that Gentry will be considered for the Clippers' job once the process gets more serious.

Clippers To Pursue 'Big Name' Coach

Sterling_Donald_lac_080109.jpg

The Los Angeles Clippers will pursue multiple big name candidates before opening their coaching search, according to a source.

Among those candidates are Jeff Van Gundy, Stan Van Gundy, Brian Shaw and Lionel Hollins.

Alvin Gentry, Byron Scott and Michael Malone are also considered candidates for the Clippers.

I think an ideal coach for the Clippers would be Jerry Sloan.

I think an ideal coach for the Clippers would be Jerry Sloan.

Would be deadly. He made Karl Malone and John Stockton master the pick and roll offense. Imagine what it would do for CP3 and Blake.

Among those mentioned per that article, JVG & Lionel Hollins have to be at the top. Jerry Sloan would be even better though obviously (though not mentioned in the article).

Blake will never be close to what Malone does, he doesn't even have the jump shot or post game.

It would be like us running twin towers Spurs offense and trying to make Gasol into Duncan,

they contacted Jeff Van Gundy

The Los Angeles Clippers reached out to Jeff Van Gundy to get a preliminary sense of his interest in discussing their head-coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

There was no discussion of setting up an interview, nor any real gauge of whether Van Gundy holds interest in the job, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Those close to Van Gundy believe that he is open to considering a return to coaching for the right opportunity.

^ Good for them. They should look at Lionel Hollins very seriously as well.

Jerry Sloan?  You talking about the Clippers here you guys.  If I was Jerry Sloan, I would call the cops if Donald Sterling contact me.  No way a coach with his statured would want to work for a human being like Sterling.  For one, Sterling probably only pay him one year contract since Sterling dont like to pay coaches causing almost every former coach to be upset and then sue.

I hope the Clippers hire a no name coach who just want a head coach to get his career started. Clippers should be an organization for any coaches and players to get their feet wet in the NBA and then move on elsewhere and succeed.

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

If Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan were whining about Chris Paul and his professional work ethic, Jerry Sloan would destroy those wusses.
