That was the most stupidest discussion I heard. Magic or someone else said Jimmy needs to be bold, and they all say the Lakers should clear some cap. Easier said than done........

You'd have to amnesty pau, trade Nash to a team for literally no returning cap, get rid of Ron and blake as well for no cap

No cuz a team that barely made it into the playoffs with a injured prone players is more appealing than a super team thats about to win back to back. Come on man you should know this.

Miami can't offer Chris Paul a max contract in 2014.

LeBron isn't gonna take another paycut, and Bosh is gonna want more money.

So unless they want to lose the big three then they aren't bringing in Paul.

The reasoning that Paul would sign to the Lakers for the mMLE isn't JUST to win a championship, it's because the Lakers could offer him a max contract in 2014 after that year is up.  It's not JUST the mMLE and the lure of a championship.  There's a big BIG paycheck at the end of that rainbow.

Whereas in Miami if they tried that with Chris Paul and then gave him the max in 2014, they lose LeBron and they lose Bosh and a Miami Heat team with just an almost out of the league Wade and Chris Paul would put him in the same situation all over again which isn't appealing for him in the least.

So no, he wouldn't go to Miami ;)

Nobody really makes fun of the panic, just the hope. This team will be awful next year, and most fans see that. The unrealistic dreams of our team getting every great player are also made fun of though

No people make fun of the panic all the time.

Most of the people that aren't Laker fans love to state they love how hype the Lakers fans get in the off-season when good moves are made, and how obnoxious they are before the season even happens, followed by how quickly they turn on their team and go into panic mode when things don't go there way.

Especially on the internet most Laker fans have a misconception of being the biggest mentally fragile fanbase on the net.    And the saying goes "wait till they're struggling, then they won't say anything."

Most Laker fans are respectable and wait and see types.  But a lot more of them hop on the message boards and on the forums and talk all this and put up all this.

That's why some forums go "Dead" during struggles after being so active it was crazy before the season started.

But alas, at least we have an active fanbase enough to go through those periods, some team forums don't even have activity even when the team is doing well :P

People make fun of how awful the Lakers are a lot more than people make fun of Laker fans panicking from what I've seen. In fact, I don't see many making fun of the panic since they agree.

I think homers are the group that are made fun of the most.

They make fun of the Lakers fans who panic and they call the fans that actually support the team through struggles homers and the ones that go to opposing teams arenas and support them are called bandwagon jumpers.

Ridiculous I know

There's supporting the team, and there's just having unrealistic hopes for the team. The fans who have those all the time are homers.

This is pure fantasy. There is no athlete in history that would go from a max contract to an MLE ever, Chris Paul isn't going to be the first. Most players wants to win rings, very few do, secondary to winning rings, they want to get paid the most possible.  It is well withing Chris Paul's power to get paid a max contract, and there are very few situations where he wins a ring.  Staying with the Clippers, nope (but you get paid), going to the Lakers, nope (but you don't get paid).  Move on.

If he went to the Lakers(provided Dwight re-signs) he would undoubtedly win a ring.  Much bigger chance of winning one on the Lakers than on the Clippers.

Not only that but the franchise would be his and Dwight's and it would be a legitimate one two punch that could be built around.

The Clippers franchise player is Blake Griffin moving forward, as long as he's their second guy and their franchise, the Clippers have no hope of advancing beyond the second round.

Our franchise player(for years) would be Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul in addition to him(a situation where you COULD pay both max contracts) is much more appealing, especially in the eve of Kobe's career building around a center like Dwight and a point guard like Chris Paul.

He can't go to Miami, because he wouldn't get a max there in the 2014 season(cause they'd lose LeBron and Bosh which is their core) the Lakers franchise number one would already be set in stone(Dwight Howard) with enough money to sign another max contract in the 2014 off-season.

That's why our name is such a big one in the 2014 because we'd be one of the few teams whose franchise player is already in tact and on the team and still be a team able to give out one final max contract to add to it.  Which is much more appealing honestly.

We'd actually probably be the only team entering the 2014 season that actually has the franchise core built while many other teams would be scrambling trying to still put things together to a still incomplete identity during that off-season prior to it..

Undoubtedly win a ring?  You just saw Dwight Howard play on a team with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Steve Nash with the highest payroll in the league by a laughable margin go on to a mediocre at best regular season record, as well as an absolute blowout in the playoffs.  There are no guarantees in life of performance, no matter what team you are on, or what players are on the squad.  There is the guarantee that Chris Paul can get the most money by resigning with the Clippers or with another team that can offer him max now, which is not the Lakers.  This scenario people are proposing simply will not happen.

He already bought a house for 7 million. I am sure he wouldn't want to take a paycut for a year AND buy another home.

Alright then how about this.

The highest probability of winning a ring combined with with franchise longevity tag(very few teams can offer both) is the Lakers.

Many teams can offer Chris Paul the franchise money but they wouldn't have another franchise player on the team along with him and that is the problem.

The only team(should Dwight re-sign) that could offer CP3 a max contract along with having another franchise player already on the team and the securing that the franchise one two punch would be the core for longer than a year would be the Lakers.

Case in point no other team in the 2014 draft is going to have their franchise core set like the Lakers would by 2014.

Every other team would be in scramble mode to try to make things happen.

The Heat would be trying to keep their core together by giving LeBron a max and offering more money to Bosh.

The Celtics aren't in need of a point guard.

The Clippers franchise tag is on Blake Griffin and if Chris Paul plays there he's never getting past the second round as long as Blake Griffin is the franchise guy or even the second option.

The Lakers would already have Dwight Howard though, and enough money to sign another free agent to a max contract.  Why do you think everyone expects the 2013-2014 off-season to be such a big one for the Lakers?  Specifically for that reason.

So that's why I said it would be more than the lure of a championship and such that would make CP3 (if he did) sign the one year deal with the max guaranteed in 2014.   He'd know that in 2014 we'd already have our franchise core and we'd be building around that and we wouldn't be one of the other teams that are trying to do both at the same time.

That's what makes the Lakers so appealing in that scenario and that is why it is vital that we re-sign Dwight cause then us having one max player is set in stone already and we'd be further along than a lot of other teams prior to the 2013-2014 off-season, and then in the off-season signing having the money to sign a second one to pair with Dwight is also set in stone.

That's what makes the Lakers more appealing that a team like Miami or even a team like the Clippers if CP3 wants a ring.
