Phil Jackson turned down the Brooklyn Nets' head coach opening, but he is open to coaching a team if he has influence on the roster in the organization's front office, according to a source.

Jackson wants a role similar to the one Pat Riley has had with the Miami Heat -- preferring front office control but open to coaching if he can have power.

If he doesn't have influence over a franchise, a source says Jackson might stay retired for now.

So he knows no one will just give him full power so now its he'll coach the team if they give him full power.

Bye Bye D'antoni. Hello Phil Jackson. Jim Buss needs to put his pride aside and do it for his brother in law. If that fails Dwight Howard needs to man up and tell Jim if they want to retain him hire the man he wanted in the first place Zen Master.

Phil Jackson could be a very huge piece in potentially convincing LeBron to come here as well come 14' if we had any shot to begin with at all. When you have the greatest coach of all-time, it only helps in attracting players to come & want to play for such a legend.

Mike D'Antoni on the other hand, uhhh... yeah..

yo.

We'll see. I dont see them taking away mitch's job though. If he were to come to the lakers it would to coach and thats it. I see him going to the raptors if anything. Young team with some decent talent in which they would give him the GM control as well.

Phil Jackson to the Lakers... is like that perfect girl who you always loved, but left you. You guys created so much magical moments and memories but for some reason, your mom (Jim Buss) was always jealous of her and so now she's gone. And deep inside you, despite trying to move on (Mike Brown/Mike D'Antoni), you still want her back.

He wouldn't have had control over it this year then either.

Honestly it seems like Phil was asking too much initially with the unsureness of coaching, as more and more teams are turning down his demands after Mitch did it initially(and lets be honest we have NO idea what Phil's VERY FIRST commands were).  If it was anywhere near what he was asking up unto a week ago it's not hard to figure out why Mitch said no.

SO he now seems to be easing off of his demands and trying to get into teams as the coach if required, but ultimately wants say over the staff and have influence on the roster.

That means he would want to be in talks with the people about who to draft, and who to bring in via free agency and who to trade away and get rid of.

He'll have a much bigger chance at securing a job now that he's eased our demands.

Not on the Lakers though, he isn't going to take power from Mitch.    Maybe a "developing" team perhaps.

What the heck does he want. He doesn't want to coach. Yet when offered a front office position of complete power that he desires, he doesn't take it (Toronto, New Jersey). I'm starting to think hes just getting some buz to get his name out there for his book or whatever. I dont think hes serious about the NBA at all.  He wants to be with a team that already has a title contending team and wants to inch them closer ok but who wants to do that? The Clippers? Maybe but hes made an enemy out of Sterling over the years with the verbal jabs

No offense to Phil but why would a well established team want him for like a 2-3 year basis teams want a GM whos gonna be there for a while right?

Hes all over the place.  I think he wants full control of the Lakers and Im sorry i dont trust him with it. Maybe as a coach...maybe it depends on the roster moves we makes. Its triangle or bust and we know this...maybe bring back Lamar and Shannon? EL OH EL

^^^
Was there anything to suggest Phil was offered a front office position with complete power?

As far as Brooklyn goes, they extended the offer of being the head coach which he wasn't interested in.
