Phil Jackson has informed the Brooklyn Nets that he is uninterested in discussing their head coaching position, according to a source.

Jackson is seeking a broad management role with an NBA team.

I don't get it...what does qualifications/experience does PJ thinks he has that will give if full authority over basketball descisons? I don't see no NBA giving him full power over management.

I agree

It is only a matter of time before some team caves and offers him everything he wants....

I wish the lakers would do it...

but, unfortunately, it will be some team like the pistons or the sonics...

Phil will run his team soon enough

He doesn't want to "coach" anymore. He wants a front office position.

been saying it and saying it and saying it.

Probably has a lot to do with his health as well.

Even if we had him on a one year deal this year, he'd have been gone this off-season because he'd be asking for the same thing.

No NBA team wants to give PJ full creative control, not just the Lakers.

Teams only want him apparently as a Coach, but he wants to be an executive like a Pat Riley position.

That's why Phil said he wanted to be the executive of an NBA team going nowhere, cause if they are going nowhere its easier for him to ask the things he's going to ask and that they'd go with it.

But a team like New York, Brooklyn, Los Angeles etc isn't gonna give him that.

Please find this mystery quote and post it.  I don't recall any statement like this coming directly from Phil Jackson.

He wont coach unless he has the best player in the league on his team.

He didn't say "nowhere" but he said "a developing team" which is a nicer way of putting it. Anyway here's the post

Jackson could have that level of impact on a team if he were given full control, which is what he would demand - and get.

Jackson said he would be interested in a developing team "where you'd have the influence in (selecting the) coaching staff and the kind of culture that goes along with it. It goes all the way down to - not down to, but includes - trainers and the people who are doing the hands-on work with players, that have to be really embedded with how you put a team together. ... The support group is important; guys who get an opportunity to hear and talk and influence the players.

"It would be a real opportunity to implant the game, a culture that I believe in - that's the intriguing part."

Developing non-established team is more willing to give Phil the creative control on everything he wants, thus why he wants to talk to a "developing" team as opposed to an established one.

Enjoy :)

Lakers should have given Phil a position in Lakers organization, but I agree with you also TheOriginalCZM  that he is not qualified. Teams should take a chance on Zen Master though, because worst case scenario he is bad at it and resort to the Head Coaching position for that team.

So Phil, you are cleverly waiting for Craptoni to get fired so Jim Buss comes begging you to take the leash of this franchise ? And you will then hire Brian Shaw or Fisher? Sounds good.    (pipe dream)

If given the opportunity (by our dumbass owner) he'd coach the lakers, no doubt in my mind.

They'd have to get rid of Brook Lopez then sign Dwight. The odds of that happening are super slim.

I think the Lakers should take a chance and hire Phil in some fashion of management. This would allow Brian Shaw to come back to the Lakers and coach us when MDA gets fired.
