Only had to play a season after 1970.

Lots of great players to choose from, I finally had my choices narrowed down to four. Ultimately, I let Michael Jordan help me make my decision....

"If I had to pick a center [for an all-time best team], I would take Olajuwon. That leaves out Shaq, Patrick Ewing. It leaves out Wilt Chamberlain. It leaves out a lot of people. And the reason I would take Olajuwon is very simple: he is so versatile because of what he can give you from that position. It's not just his scoring, not just his rebounding or not just his blocked shots. People don't realize he was in the top seven in steals. He always made great decisions on the court. For all facets of the game, I have to give it to him." - Michael Jordan

So with the #4 overall pick, I take HAKEEM OLAJUWON.

bigfetz is up, his personal message box is full so I can't PM him.

All my faves going off the board one by one. Hopefully I can draft well at the 2nd round turn and form a nice duo. 15th pick :sorry:

My first choice was Kobe, because I figured after him and MJ there is a drop off in SG talent. Then I wanted KAJ as I believed he was the best choice at center. The four players I was deciding between by the time my pick came around were Olajuwon, Wilt, Shaq and Lebron (and for future reference I'd prefer not to name drop players that haven't been selected yet, but these are obvious enough names I don't think I'm blowing up anyones secret pick) But ultimately:

Wilt was dominant but was widely regarded as a terrible teammate and leader, and didn't listen to coaching. You have to figure if he was going against big men his own size his numbers would be comparable to Shaq/Olajuwon/KAJ, etc. Poor leadership and FT% led me not to pick him

Shaq, same thing. Dominant offensively, not the defensive player Olajuwon was. He was more powerful, but Olajuwon has him in versatility and finesse. FT% was a big detractor as well.

Lebron would've switched things up because he can do a bit of everything, and would've given me the option to go with a guard or big man with my next pick. He's easy to play alongside so picking teammates would be easy.

Ultimately I figured it's good to start your team with a great big man, and Hakeem provided the best balance of offense, defense and athleticism.

^ Not necessarily. I wouldn't take LeBron over any of the 4 guys picked. I didn't expect him to go this early, but there's no denying his potential in a game like this. Good stuff.

I was very tempted by LeBron James because of his potential in a game like this.

It was essentially between LeBron, Magic, and Kareem for me.  I have a specific plan for my team and Kareem fits right into that.

I pick Shaquille O'Neal, the most dominant player in the history of the game. (And I hate him.)

I was between Magic and Shaq at first but I dont want to play Showtime basketball and Magic has lots of deficiencies to pick him over other greats. Essentially it boiled down to Shaq or Duncan but if you have a shot at getting prime Shaq you do it. It is a shame I cant pair him with Kobe.

This is what Massacre said when I asked him if we could draft a player that played after the '70 season, but use a season prior to 1970

"Well, I honestly implemented that rule because that's so far back it's going to be hard to translate their potential impact with today's players (Bob Cousy for example). You're free to do that, but keep in mind how you'll justify his impact in your write ups. Depends how the judges will react to that."

So Wilt was eligible to be drafted because he played after 1970, but any of his seasons can be used.

Guys, the whole 1970 rule is scrapped. I told West Coast this earlier, but it's complicating things. Draft anybody, pick any season.

But keep in mind, the farther you go back, the tougher it is to make a distinction between what's realistic with today's players and what's not. I will let you guys make that call. I highly doubt George Mikan will be as effective in this game as his name says he will. It's up to you to explain this in your write up and convince the judges on how their game will translate. I won't limit you guys in doing so, it's only fair.

I'm picking Tim Duncan. KB24 Black Mamba is on the clock.
