Right? Hes part of the Buss family. He should have a position in the organization. He's earned it - through 5 championships & through Jeanie Buss.

Atleast this will rest the "We want Phill"  situation in LA. Kind of getting annoying from fans who actually think Phil will be back with the lakers.  Not surprised Phil taking another job instead of the Lakers. Very surprised that Phil take this job with the pistons though. Detroit? With that roster? Welcome to irrelevancy Phillip.

MDA is an offensive genius. I hope he sticks to his guns and keeps doing what he does best: Run and Gun. That's the only way to coach.

I guess you are in the butterfly land like most lakers fans thinking Jim Buss and Phil willing to work together on things. Jim wouldn't even want phil to be in the same living room let alone be an advisor.

You guys do realize that this is probably just until he finds the Pistons a coach right. He most likely won't do much else for the Pistons.

Yes I do realized that and it is one of the dumbest position you can get. Irrelevant position in my book. Its like Jerry West being hte "advisor" for the Warriors. He probably doesn't do much for them that much but get all the credit because he got the name.

It's sad such an important part of the Lakers family has to go work for other teams.

But the Pistons trick is PJ is signed indefinitely. So the Pistons will never hire a coach and PJ will remain employed. The only way this job ends is if PJ agrees to coach Detroit thus fulfilling the agreement to be a "adviser" in Detroits search for a head coach.

Said the entire city of Chicago when PJ signed in LA.

Seems like Jim Buss is in butterfly land because if he was smart, Phil would be contrinuting to the Laker organization somehow. All i said was that phil has earned that. I never said it was going to happen.

Just like Jerry West was irrelevant in Memphis and now in Golden State?  That roster is better than most folks know (it's not great but its not Bobcats bad), there are some decent young players there to build off of.  Monroe, Drummond and Bynum are players but the FO needs alot of help, they have made some moronic draft picks in the last few years.  With a good coach and a decent FO plan, they could be back in 3- 4 years, and PJ could help with that.

Watching our own guys build other franchises, yup.  Riley, West, now PJ.  Imagine how different the league would be if we had found a way to keep all that brainpower working for us?

..or he can just quit.

Whatever they're paying him, he doesn't need it. He was the highest paid coach of all time with us I believe. They need him a lot more than he needs them, a lot more.
