I'm not worried because I've learned that part of this is smokescreen, part of it is entertainment, and some of it is truth

Anyone who believes this [expletive] did not experience the Dwightmare during last summer like some of us did on these forums

How pissed would we all be if Dwight re-signs with LA on a one year deal, knowing that we can do this all over again next year?

Nobody caught this little nugget?

http://espn.go.com/l...ard-sources-say

After team sources initially indicated the Lakers were feeling better about their chances after their face-to-face meeting with [Dwight] Howard on Tuesday than they did coming into it, pessimism began to creep back in Thursday, stemming mostly from ongoing questions outside and inside team headquarters about Howard's ability and willingness to co-exist alongside Kobe Bryant and play for coach Mike D'Antoni.

MDA strikes again. I wonder how big of a factor Kobe has been too. It's been mentioned consistently throughout reports.

Know how its a smokescreen?

If for one solid hour they push

"DWIGHT IS OBVIOUSLY LEAVING"

and then one hour later they go back on it with

"But don't count LA out" or "But it wouldn't surprise me if he signed with LA"

Pretty much what they're doing right now.

Oh yeah the typical "But Dwight and Kobe can't co-exist"  and "plus Dwight hates D'antoni" storiy.

We've been dealing with that since mid-season.   It's nothing new.

If the Lakers were worried about Dwight and Kobe co-existing he'd be the last person they'd bring to a meeting to be stern with him.

The media is gonna try to break the story as "Dwight is leaving!!!" Rather than "Mitch has a backup plan if Dwight leaves"

Does anyone here remember Mitch saying that the Lakers had a Plan B?  That Plan B wasn't as good as plan A but if Dwight left they'd go to Plan B.

What do you think Plan B was?  Sign and Trade.

Again, they break the story as if it's obvious Dwight is leaving and then they re-nig on it an hour later with a "But don't count LA out" story so they absolve themselves of looking like idiots if Dwight stays.

Renege? I'm ashamed to admit I thought of something else at first.

Any story right now for the media is a good story. People are sick of waiting and hungry for news. As West Coast said though, the best thing the Lakers can do is cut their losses and get whatever we can. Even that "ripoff" deal for Shaq led to Pau Gasol and two more championships.

Of course the Lakera are bracing for the worst.

They did with Kobe too.

Still 100% confident Dwight will be a Laker come next season.

Well if you're talking about the 2014 free agency, you can't lose what you never had. If somebody like LeBron or Carmelo decides against coming to Los Angeles, then you didn't really lose anything more than an opportunity. With Dwight, there's the risk of being left empty-handed for the first time in years.

Furthermore, I'm almost certain Kobe will return. I'm not so sure about Pau. Frankly, based on the way LA has treated him, I don't think he would want to return.

But the Lakers actually being PREPARED if Dwight left just can't be allowed.... it just can't!!! They have to be ready and willing to just let him walk for absolutely nothing with no preparation ready despite a year to get ready!!!   Don't they?  I mean if they actually prepare it obviously means they have no confidence right??

Well, that's the reason why they are feeling pessimism. That's probably the main story altogether. I thought the Lakers would ultimately consider a sign and trade if it was worth it and they were sure he was leaving.

And, it's been mentioned very consistently throughout reports that he had problems with D'Antoni and Kobe.

Kennedy is good friends with Real Deal

For what it's worth, I can vouch for him in regards to what he knows about Dwight and Orlando Magic basketball.  Alex was a writer of mine, eventually my lead writer, over at my site.  He got an opportunity, told me about it, and we went our separate ways (because that's what it's all about, at the end of the day...I never wanted to hold any potential analysts back).

He's a guy that will NOT write something just for attention.  He digs for the truth.

Last year's circus, revolving around Howard, was very tough to cover...so, of course, a lot of things tweeted by MANY reporters came out looking bad.  Too much confusion and uncertainty.

But Alex is a very good friend of mine, and he's worth the follow on Twitter.
