This is going to be like a girlfriend that wants to "see other people" for a while. It pains you to see it happen, but in the end you hope she comes back. But if she leaves you are ready to hook up with her friend instead.

Dwight Howard voiced frustration with Mike D'Antoni during meeting with Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak, sources told ESPNLA.com

Hmm.

We all saw it coming. I personally think it is slightly blown out of proportion.

Interesting off season looming.. Will spend time with d12 #stay and talk with the Buss family in hopes that Pau stays as well #my2cents

I don't think he can look at the players he has won with objectively. He has a lot of loyalty to them. It's the same thing with Metta.

Howard was one of several Lakers -- Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol being the most noteworthy -- to have an extended separate meeting with the GM after his exit interview with both Kupchak and D'Antoni, multiple sources confirmed to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

According to sources with knowledge of the situation, part of the discussion between Howard and Kupchak centered around Howard's frustration with D'Antoni -- particularly how the center felt marginalized as the coach looked to Bryant and Steve Nash for leadership and suggestions and discounted Howard's voice.

Every player was afforded the opportunity to meet with Kupchak individually after D'Antoni left the room, but few spent as much time as Howard and Kupchak did together. Antawn Jamison also had a separate meeting with Kupchak without D'Antoni present, but that was because of a scheduling conflict.

That came earlier than expected.  Thought the Dwight/MDA would have came out around June.

Not surprising in the slightest, knew this was going to happen.

Hopefully MDA is gone, then. We can't lose Dwight. Looking at a very bleak future without him.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say none of this turmoil would have happened if LA would have just hired Brian Shaw in 2011

WOAH. This could be the beginning of the end for MDA or the beginning of the end for D12 as Lakers.

part of the article afterwards

Despite the frustration Howard had with D'Antoni last season, there is nothing to suggest the partnership is irreparable. "It's not a, 'It's me or Mike,' situation for Dwight," said a source.

So no.

clever first half though for those that didn't read the entire article

However despite whatever Howard may have said it apparently wasn't enough to worry Kupchak about Dwight re-signing or make him feel like he'd need to make a coaching change and Mitch is always honest when it comes to whether he feels players are going to re-sign or not.

So I expect it to be blown out of proportion.   regardless.

i'll atleast wait till mid june before these "rumors" effect me

The Lakers will always choose the player over a coach....D'Antoni is gone

Now will Phil be ok with just a coaching role or is he gona be an A-hole and say no thanks

Now we can get on with the off-season with this news.

The Lakers are about to play a very high stakes poker game with Dwight Howard, problem is that Dr. Jerry Buss, an experienced poker player, is not sitting at the table anymore.

Dwight's essentially calling all in, voicing displeasure with MDA, reports from his camp of him being intrigued with the Mavs & Rockets,  Stephen A. Smith saying he wants Phil Jackson as coach, etc.

Does Jim Buss call his bluff?

I'll say this, I want Dwight to stay, but if he leaves, that's his decision.  But if the decision is fueled by D'Antoni staying as head coach, I will be beside myself and will lose a lot of faith in this front office under the power of Jim Buss.

The only thing that puts the Lakers in a bad position is that there is no guarantee that Dwight stays with the Lakers even if they fire MDA.

Jim has a chance to make a decision that would change the public opinion of him.  Not only would firing MDA restore the fans faith in him, it will give fans restored hope moving forward.

DH should threaten to leave if MDA stays and we'll see if Mitch calls his bluff. Mitch is high off something: In the same breath, he said "Dwight likes winning." "He's fine with MDA"

Contradictory statements

Pau Gasol is GONE

If Dwight wanted to stay and wanted d'antoni gone when decision time comes whenever that is he'll make the ultimatum known

Firing d'antoni should happen with our without Dwight IMO

Also people underestimate Phil's power play. All of those Dwight Howard comments he's made were made for Dwight to hear

Phil doesn't have to do anything, sell himself, he will just have the player with the most leverage in the organization feel as though he is the only coach for him and have Dwight do the rest
