Josh Smith to LA?  It's possible

30bzskp.jpg

According to Mark Medina of The Los Angeles Daily News, Dwight Howard and Josh Smith have spoken about joining forces in the NBA. Smith and Howard grew up together in Atlanta and played on the same AAU team.

Reuniting the two athletes is something worth exploring for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Atlanta Hawks are set to enter free agency with under $22.0 million locked up in guaranteed contracts. In other words, they will have the cap flexibility to land stars or build a significant amount of depth.

Neither of those statements appear likely to include Josh Smith.

According to Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today Sports, Smith is unlikely to re-sign with the Hawks. Chris Broussard of ESPN Insider reports that general manager Danny Ferry has already decided not to re-sign Smith.

While Ferry has neither confirmed nor denied the report, it's clear that there is skepticism from both ends.

Per the previously alluded to report via Jeff Zillgitt, the Atlanta Hawks fielded offers for Josh Smith at the 2013 NBA trade deadline. The teams interested included the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns and Washington Wizards.

It's fair to assume that every one of those teams will at least gauge Smith's interest this upcoming summer, whether financially probable or not.

The truth of the matter is, any and every team can make a run at Smith if it can figure out the financial aspects of a deal. The true question, at this stage, is which teams can offer Smith the most attractive deals?

Teams such as the Celtics and Houston Rockets instantly come to mind.

Smith was the only player in the NBA to average at least 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steal simultaneously.

The only player.

May as well

Anyway I can see the Celtics making a STRONG run at him, and perhaps Houston too should Dwight re-sign here.

I was just reading in another forum of the Atlanta Hawks. They were saying they wouldn't mind SnT Josh for Pau... But then somebody said that Lakers cannot do it. But a few are on board... They'd take Pau for a one year rental. Is this true that the Lakers cannot Do a SnT with ATL for Josh?

Yes. The Lakers can't receive a 'sign and trade' player. They can send out one though...

The only way is if either of those players wanted the chance to win a ring over money and was guaranteed more money in 2014.

I don't think he is willing to take a pay-cut.

I've always wanted OJ here, but doubt it. Although his second half of the season was average, he was the first option for the Mavs the whole first half and played very well.

Didn't he take 3 million to be with Dallas anyway?

The Lakers were among the teams actually trying to get him but after we got Meeks I guess we decided we could afford to not pursue him so aggressively.

As is the case right now I'm sure Mitch will go after him particularly due to his bad end to the season, his stock is probably around where it was last year if not lower because of Carslile throwing him under the bus.

I think if we wanted Mayo for the MLE we could have him.

Would still prefer Webster, but if Webster is taken back by the Wizards(and chooses money over championship) then I'd say to go after OJ Mayo.

Josh smith is in no way is a possibility. He is not going to take min. A player would never go from wanting a max contract to taking league min.

Garcia's available

http://blog.chron.co...-the-offseason/

Q: About those contract options, would they really let go of such key players?

A: Absolutely. Garcia was outstanding in the postseason, but the final season of his contract is worth $6.4 million, a hefty price. Carlos Delfino’s injury will make it tough to pick up his option by the June 30 deadline

.

Garcia at the 2 and Kobe at the 3 to start next season? Might just work. Garcia doesn't have a lot of mileage in his legs and he didnt do so bad guarding Durant or Westbrook in 1st round

Another decent player to add at the 2/3 for a price we can afford

http://www.news-hera...wmode=fullstory

The Cavs own a team option on swingman C.J. Miles' $2 million contract for next season. It's not cut-and-dry that they pick it up, like once thought.

I dont think they'd need CJ with Dion Waiters, Wayne Ellington and Alonzo Gee around

Yeah CJ Miles is another wing player we should look at if they dont pick up his option.

Forget 2014 for now! I know the Lakers are looking ahead for the 2014 FA class and are hoping to sign an elite Free Agent, but I really think we may end up in a bad spot. The only way we have a chance at signing an elite Free Agent is if we have either Howard or similar top-tier player already signed long-term. If that’s not the case, I think we end up using the max on the wrong guy and limit our options for a long time like the Knicks did with Amaré and Nets did on Deron and Joe Johnson (I know it was Atlanta who signed him, but Brooklyn is stuck with him).

I think we need to do whatever possible to re-sign Howard and in case he leans towards signing elsewhere we should attempt to move him for another elite player, like Kevin Love, CP3, Griffin etc. – getting Omer Asik in a sign-and-trade wouldn’t be bad, but probably isn’t going to cut it when it comes to winning championships in 2014 or signing LBJ in 2014.
