That's a GREAT idea. Just one problem, Cleveland wouldn't do that because Dwight wouldn't re-sign there.

Yea that would be the only problem. If they could convince him to do it. Kyrie in a Lakers jersey would be a major step in the right direction.

Kyrie would be awesome, but it probably would never happen. Right now, the first major step in the right direction is this: Fire Mike D'Antoni.

Lakers should put Martell Webster on their "big board" of free agents

After a lackluster career to date, Martell Webster has enjoyed a breakout season. He's blowing away his career bests in nearly every major category.

Most relevant to the Lakers is his 44 percent accuracy from three-point range, a figure which ranks fifth in the NBA. Webster is also fifth among all non-big men in true shooting percentage, and his offensive rating has been off the charts.

He's got great size for a wing and puts forth commendable effort on the defensive end, though he lacks mobility (think Joe Johnson). Webster is affordable too, making just $1.6 million this season.

The question is: Will other teams open their wallets for Webster after witnessing his career year?

Give him our TPE on a 2 year deal.

Perfect guy to go after.

We SHOULD have gone after the guy when the T-Wolves waived him.

But we were so convinced about Ebanks -_-

Webster is going to draw some major attention this offseason and will most likely receive higher offers than we can give. Guys like this may be willing to sign for less here if Dwight re-signs. Webster may be tired of losing on a team like the Wizards and want an opportunity to compete.

I think THIS is why Mitch wants to know by June or the start of July whether or not Dwight is re-signing or not.

Because he knows the players already he wants to make a run at and who would have a higher probability of signing when Dwight is here.

We made a run at some athletic wings last off-season but none of them wanted to sign with us.

We made a run at Meeks but he nor his agent wanted to come for that kind of money.

Dwight Howard signed and then suddenly Meeks wanted to join.

I think Mitch understands the significance of Dwight staying especially in terms of attracting free agents.

So he wants to know by June or perhaps July so that he can start getting the wheels in motion for these offers right away before other teams scoop up these free agents while Dwight is still musing over his decision..

Exactly. And another challenge for these young guys that we want (like Webster) is the length of the contract. They will be looking for max security, but instead we will only be looking for one year contracts. The best thing we can do is to offer a one year guaranteed contract with the second year being a team option and the third year being a player option. But a guy like Webster can most likely find better than that.

Yep.  that's why having a guy like Dwight is important.  He's part of the bargain so to speak.

Wizards are trying to resign him, thats why they traded Crawford for Barbosa’s expiring contract so they can make room to resign Webster.

if Dwight re-signs here it will be a much bigger bargaining chip to re-sign Webster than what the Wizards can offer in money.

If he wants to win that is.

Yea but he's not in a bad place. Wizards' fortunes have certainly improved since John Wall returned, and he can get more money

yeah but he may not want to waste his prime years on the Wizards.  Let's be honest, even with John Wall they aren't a top 8th seeded team and they have no shot at beating a 1-4 ranked team even if they did make the playoffs.

he'd generally be wasting his prime years in Washington.  So as I said if he wants to win he would more than likely be able to be enticed here if Dwight re-signs.

Webster said when they asked if he would re-sign on the Wizards he said he would always remember the Wizards for giving him the opportunity and loves the fans and would like to come back BUT at the end of the day it's a business and he understands that.

When he said that I said to myself if the Lakers make an aggressive run at the guy(and if they re-sign Dwight) their chances of getting him are very high.

Wizards is not a bad team when healthy, with the right moves with the assets they have they can be anywhere from a 6-8 seed, hell they could have made it in this year if they would have stayed healthy but they didn't. I think they're going to try to re-sign him at a reasonable salary or he leaves for more money, he's only 26 still young, but we will see

If he's restricted, he's staying.. If not, he is bouncing out of Washington.

Why can't the playoffs be over yet so that free agency can start?

I would love to get Martell. He is the young athletic type of players we need.
