I think in order to have a good chance at keeping Dwight, we need to make a move pretty soon.

For instance, if we somehow signed Tony Allen or Dorrell Wright to the mini-midlevel. Dwight needs to know that the Lakers are willing to look beyond payroll in order to create a championship roster.

Greg Oden Had Two-Day Visit With Heat

greg-oden-hands-together.jpg

Greg Oden recently had a two-day visit with the Miami Heat.

Pat Riley confirmed the visit and restated his interest in signing Oden.

“We will explore that and see where it goes because of the possibilities,’’ Riley said of Oden, who has been plagued by knee problems since being the NBA’s No. 1 draft pick in 2007. “You go back to look at (Zydrunas) Ilgauskas. He had nothing but foot problems for about four years and everybody thought it was over. And the same thing happened with Kurt Thomas at the beginning of his career. There’s been a lot of players young in their careers that have had chronic injuries (and then) it doesn’t happen to them anymore. I think he’s such a young player and to be such a force, that you’d want to monitor him very closely.’’

The Heat would likely need to use their their $3.183 million exception to sign Oden.

Greg Oden Receiving Interest From Spurs, Mavericks, Pacers and Grizzlies

img21622203.jpg

By Marc J. Spears

Greg Oden hasn’t played in an NBA game in more than 3½ years, but hasn't kept teams from inquiring about the possibility of signing him.

Oden, 25,has received interest from the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers and Memphis Grizzlies, league sources said. The No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA draft hasn’t played since Dec. 5, 2009, because of multiple knee injuries.

Oden is in a "good place" mentally now, one source said, and hopes to be ready physically to play by training camp. He also doesn’t appear to be in a rush to make a decision on where to sign, the source said.

Bulls Targeting Mo Williams and Will Bynum For Guard Help

Williams_Mo_uta_121023.jpg

With uncertainty in the backcourt, the Chicago Bulls are showing significant interest in Mo Williams and Will Bynum and have started exploratory discussions with the representatives of the free agent guards, league sources told RealGM.

Williams averaged 12.9 points in 46 games a season ago with the Utah Jazz, and he has a stated desire to receive heavy, contributing minutes. The Jazz acquired Trey Burke at No. 9 in the NBA draft and could start him early in his NBA career. At 30, Williams has established himself as a combo guard, and Tom Thibodeau would undoubtedly place the 10-year veteran in shooting and playmaking situations.

Bynum has been a pace-changing guard, averaging nearly 10 points on 46.9 percent shooting in 2012-13. He has played five of his six seasons with the Detroit Pistons. Given Chicago’s salary structure, Williams and Bynum both could be inclined to make less money in a potential deal with the Bulls.

The Bulls appear unlikely to retain Nate Robinson or Marco Belinelli, and they are expected to waive Rip Hamilton before his entire contract becomes guaranteed. Still, they’ll have Derrick Rose back next season, leading to reserve minutes for Kirk Hinrich.

So the Lakers do not have the higest paid player in the league and the 3rd highest current payroll heading into next season?

Knicks Interested In Elton Brand

Elton+Brand+Golden+State+Warriors+v+Dall

By Jared Zwerling | ESPNNewYork.com

The New York Knicks are preparing to make an offer to Elton Brand, a league source confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

The terms of the offer for the veteran power forward are undisclosed at this point.

The Knicks have been after Brand since the start of free agency. Brand, 34, provides scoring and rebounding, which the team needs. Brand is not only a solid rotation player -- he is fine with coming off the bench -- but insurance, as well, considering Amar'e Stoudemire's recent injury history.

Several other teams have expressed interest in Brand, according to the source. The Mavericks also remain "very interested," Brand's agent, David Falk, texted to ESPNDallas.com's Tim MacMahon.

Brand is attracted to the Knicks because of their winning culture and first-class organization, the source said. In addition, the team is close to his hometown -- Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. -- and his mother, Daisy, still lives nearby. Quality of life is also important to him as he decides on his next team, the source said.

I'd say Elton will accept the deal with the Knicks. He wants to be home. NY is his hometown. He wanted to be close to home, that's why he sign with them 4 years ago. He's gonna replace K-Mart.

Pacers have agreed to rescind
Tyler Hansbrough's qualifying

unrestricted free agent

Should we go after Psycho T?
