What are some things you want the Lakers to do to get back to being a title contender

Heres my thoughts

Start at Square 1

- Resign Dwight
- Put some young players around him to develop
- Accumulate picks and capspace for 2014

Do whatever needs to be done to build a championship team that starts in 2014, next year is a wash IMO

2014 has a goldmine of draft picks and great free agents available

You forgot the big one:

Fire D'Antoni.

The Lakers can still try to improve next year. Just don't take in any long term money.

Do whatever it takes to get us to be a title contender next season.  Resign Dwight, get an athletic SF, get rid of Pau and hope the basketball gods are nice to us next season. Oh yeah firing D'Antoni would be orgasmic

1- Sign Howard.

1a - Make a decision about coaching staff

2- Get rid of the fillers.. Esp Ebanks and Sacre

3- Based on the coach find the elements that fit with Kobe and Howard.

4-Make a decision on Pau

5- If it was me, i'd keep Hill, Clark and Jamison.

With MDA the storied LA Franchise descends into an abyss of biblical proportions. I'm reminded of what Beldar Conehead said: "...the stench will be great."

Pau Gasol is GONE

Two biggest steps are as follows.

1) Resign Dwight

2) Fire MDA (or at least hire a defensive assistant or something)

If we don't do both these things the Lakers are headed in a bad direction. I'm hoping the second is a necessary condition for the first, it will make life easier.

Simple.
Not in order
1) Fire MDA
2) Mitch needs to put in work on bench/depth
3) Acquire Athletic/Defensive Young Wingman
4) Sign D12
5) Kobe needs to come back strong
6) Decision of Pau Gasol

Mike D'Antoni is GARBAGE.

Biggest ones that can realistically happen "before" next season.

Re-sign Dwight
let Ebanks go
Put Duhon on the trading block
Place Pau on the trading block
Re-sign Goudelock
Let Meeks go so you can save the MLE
Give the MLE to Martell Webster
Sign Leandro Barbosa to the vets minimum
Bring CDR into training camp.

Hire a defensive assistant for the next season.

That's a start, everything after that is just icing.   But that's the best you can expect unless a huge trade happend.   But then again huge trades equal "top heavy" which everyone seems to be complaining about so depthy off-season means no big names.  Unless you count Monta.

New coach and coaching staff.

That's the only priority I want to see.

"You watch anime?"

- "Yeah, I just got into it! Just recently, I just started watching Attack on Ti-"

"Get away from me, pleb."

they ONLY do that in the off-season of Dwight asked for it.

The Lakers are tired of having to go through new "transition periods" to start seasons.  They are done looking at the coaching staff(in terms of the head coach).

Look for some depth moves.

I only see them firing D'antoni under two conditions.  One, if Dwight asked for it, Two if we start the season with a bad record.

You can't put a band-aid on a penetrating gash.

Simply hiring a defensive assistant is not enough to mask the inefficiencies of MDA.

Pau Gasol is GONE

No, but it would keep him from being the only person to implement something.

Let him go focus on offense or whatever, and gave the defensive coach have practices with the team on defense.

Spurs were smart. The lakers would have won the series if tracy mcgrady stepped on to the floor....because he doesnt get out of the first round lol
