Unless we trade for Kevin Love or something we're not gonna be contending in 2013. 2014 LOADED draft and tons of marquee free agents available thats what we should target

I'll say this for you.
This team was favored to get to WCF healthy.

Nash and Pau hurt themselves by playing hurt.
Kobe played too many minutes. Dwight wasnt in his usual shape.
Blake and Meeks went down late and Jamison messed up his wrist.

Next season we'll be a 1/2 seed if Dwight resigns.

^ this.

Actually we'll be top 3 imo.  But we'll be top 1/2 if we sign two good bench players.

I've always liked Steve Blake.

So youre in favor of no major changes to our roster because you expect completely different results next year?

Strengthen the bench.  First priorities.

You don't need to "blow it up".

We're a top heavy team with our starting lineup and we suffer through injury because the lack of consistency on our bench.

After this year Jamison and Meeks are likely gone as is Ebanks.

So add some depth at the bench 2 and bench 3 position.

For instance, sign Barbosa to the vets min, give Martell Webster the MLE.

if Blake is healthy next year you got a very good bench.

A very good bench with a top heavy starting lineup is a recipe for success for this team.

We're not in "blow it up" mode.

We're in "deepen the bench so we don't have another season where injuries are such a determining factor" mode.

The new Clippers?   No.

Lakers are in a tough stretch.  Let's see how the next two years (yes, two) play out before we act like we've turned into one of the least successful franchises in NBA history.

This team was favored before people saw the team play, saw no actual offensive plan, no defensive game plan, and no chemistry.  The names on the back of the jerseys are all great names, they did not work together from day 1, and quite frankly at no part of this season were the Lakers considered contenders past the first couple games when people thought that they were "figuring it out", they never did.

We don't need to blow it up.  Let's not forget that if we hadn't lost Kobe, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.  We would be up 3-0 on the Spurs instead of the other way around.  Kobe will be back and people will heal from their injuries.

Here is what I think. A time is coming in the near future where the tenuous balancing act of ownership will shift. Jeannie is going to games and assuming a more public helming of the organization (her recent elevation to governor of lakers). If Jim buss continues to make strategic blunders (coaching not being representative to roster and Nash for four 1 rd rounders), i could see thinhs changing. Owning the lakers is a business and a passion, and it appears that Jim lacks the business acumen to round out what you would want an owner to possess. So that's one of my concerns moving forward.

Trading Pau is probably a bad idea. At this point you probably don't get equitable value. Taking on a longer term contract only appeals to me in one way. If a max type player, that doesn't suck, needs a change of pace the lakers could move pau to get him. This new guy would then eliminate one max slot for 2014.

MDA needs to go hands down. Now that Dunlap, Skiles, and Collins are gone MDA may be the worst coach left with a job. Oops forgot Vinnie. The guy is not capable of motivating this team, and anyone who doesn't see a correlation between the huge amount d injuries and his coaching "style" is blind.

It looks like revenue is up, so the cap should ascend also. With a higher cap and mwp amnestied the lakers should be closer to the luxury cap. They may be more willing to offer mini MLE with less of a tax liability. If a new coach could make Nash more a shooter off the ball, and some gems are found for the bench, next year could be great.

I have faith in this team next season with a few adjustments:
1. Get rid of MWP and replace him with an athletic shooter/slasher
2. Replace deadweight bench players (Ebanks, Duhon, etc) with decent role players
3. Replace guys like Jamison and Meeks with young guys that can create shots
4. And, of course, re-sign Dwight

Why do we need another star player? Why can't we have two and build players around them? Ala OKC and Memphis

I want players who want to be here. I want players who KNOW their role and why they were brought here. We need "small players" who know they are not the star of the team, but they know they we wanted them because of their 3-pointing shooting, athleticism, defense, etc......We need ROLE players.

Secondly, Mr. Mike D'Antoni, aka the "offensive genius", has to put a system in place which accommodates all the players and maximizes their abilities for the good of the team.

I honestly still don't even think Kevin Love is a for sure thing. He's had numerous injuries now for a while and before going down last season was having seemingly career lows in shooting percentage big time and he's never been known as a great defender. I also think he needs a lot of shot attempts to be as effective (as he was the #1 guy in Minni) and he won't be getting as many here.

yo.

Resign Dwight, make some small moves to strengthen the bench, and then go cray in the 2014 offseason!
