In any case, he blew $150 million. $150,000,000. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS.

That is downright ridiculous.

It doesn't really change the point, but that number is likely pre-tax.  In other words, he probably blew about $60 to 70 million, and donated the rest to various governments... who then pissed it away as though they were professional athletes.

8 Ways Allen Iverson Blew $150 Million Fortune

http://bustedcoverag...ortune/#photo=1

Iverson purchased a $4.5 million mansion while he was already struggling financially, probably not the wisest decision. The house recently went into foreclosure.

Everyone remembers how blinged out AI used to be back in his prime. Well, Iverson also owes over $850,000 to a jewelry company.

allen-iverson-jewelry.jpg

Although he is in serious debt, Iverson currently owns a fully paid off Maybach. Such luxurious vehicles run between $300k - $400k. Perhaps Iverson could sell that car, and use the money to pay off some of his other absurd debts? Just a suggestion.

allen-iverson-maybach.jpg

During his high profile NBA career, Iverson reportedly hated luggage, so he would actually buy new clothes on road trips. It probably sounded like a good idea at the time, but he is likely regretting it today.

allen-iverson-clothes.jpg

Instead of using this product called Tide, Iverson supposedly spent $1,000 a month on laundry. Again, it is understandable that he had to maintain his swagged out image, and doing your own laundry takes time, but c’mon man!

allen-iverson-laundry.jpg

We’ve all been there, walking down the aisles of our local grocery store, deciding what items we would like to purchase, and what we should pass on. Well, it seems as if Iverson didn’t pass on anything (just like during his playing career). AI allegedly spends $10,000 on groceries a month. For someone who was 6’0’’, 165 pounds during his playing career, that is rather impressive.

skinny-allen-iverson.jpg

As if $10,000 on groceries wasn’t enough, AI also spends $10,000 a month on restaurants. Who knows where and what he is eating, but nobody needs to be blowing that much on food.

During his time in Denver, Iverson spent a lot of time (and money) on bottle service at nightclubs in the Mile-High City. Prices of bottles ranged from a variety of prices, “lower priced” options included Malibu coconut rum for over $100, while top shelf champagne such as Cristal and Dom Perignon ran around $700. Assuming AI was making a few appearances at such nightclubs a few times a week, it is understandable how Iverson could be doing so poorly financially today.

I have zero sympathy for him.

Idiocy and being a jerk catches up with you one way or another every time.

Reaping what he's sewn, deal with it.

True, but he made that $150M he purely from his NBA contracts. He also had a ton of sponsorships back in the day, so he probably burned through more than $150M in total. That's just insane.

I actually feel sorry for the guy.  He never grew up and looks like he had no one around him who had a clue either.  If I owned a sport franchise, Jamal Mashburn Business 101 courses would be mandatory as a condition to signing any contract with my team.

I don't necessarily feel bad for him because he did this to himself. Like Windu said, a lot of people can't handle success. He didn't make smart decisions and that's the bottom line.

You have to respect AI's game, but his arrogance and ego when his game was declining were the reasons he left Memphis and why we haven't seen him in the NBA since. Dude STILL think he's 2001 Iverson, and won't take a bench role.

His poor decisions and bad attitude have a lot to do with his troubles right now. Dude could still probably be a decent bench player but he doesn't want to even give it a shot. If Gary Payton could come off the bench, AI can too.

Like I said, when teams still go to him for NBA positions, and say all he has to do is play a little time in the D-league he should be jumping on that.

His mentality of "My way back in the NBA doesn't go through the D-league"  yes it does...  he isn't getting in any other way unless a team like new york or brooklyn feels pity for him

Yea this kidnapping bit is very depressing, I went from no sympathy to the guy to hoping he doesn't do anything stupid, especially with his kids around.

I feel really bad for him...

When I read stories like this, I want to be like...

Hey, mega-multi-millionare NBA player from the Hood, let me help you with your money...

Also, I think that 1% of all players contracts, should be withheld from them, and put in an annuity... that way, no matter what, they can still get a still bit a money a month to survive...

1% of NBA min, ~500,000$ = 5000$ which would give someone like ~400 dollars a month... not a huge amount of money, but, enough to survive...

if Iverson had had 1% of his career salary, just taken by the NBA players union, or something, and put into a trust or annuity...

that would be 1.5 million...

think he could use that 1.5 million now?

When I read stories like this, all I want to do is help the people...

AI is still a marketable person...

he just needs someone to tell him he cannot afford something...
