Always liked his tendency to rest players in the middle of the season, and knowing when to pull the plug on a game. Of course this requires having the luxury of resting players as well as being able to develop young players. Popovich and his staff have done a great job of developing 2nd round talent into players capable of stepping into a big game.
Phil would at least limit minutes for his players and keep them relatively fresh. D'Antoni seems to not understand that and keeps players in the game way too long (even disregarding this season where it was a necessity). He shouldn't have just decided that they have only 8 players worthy of playing and permanently benched the rest of the team.
