@Lakers: Nash isn't pain free but was able to sprint, which he couldn't do the past few weeks. "It's feeling pretty close."

Lakers actually have played better without Kobe. They pass the ball more. Get more people involved. In the last 2 years, the Lakers best streak was 7 in a row, which was without Kobe. So I like the Lakers chances better WITHOUT Kobe, as awful as that sounds.

I would have said Spurs in 5 but without Kobe I say Spurs in 6.

I've seen way worse than that go uncalled, but I digress. Please don't take offense, just an observation.

Err.. no they are not. Past two game laker have struggled to score  shooting 36% from the field.  Defense has been good but it was getting better anyway when Kobe was healthy. The others are putting in more effort because they can't fall back on Kobe  but they are not playing better they're playing harder.

Playoffs is where you need a star. You will see that we will miss Kobe in the clutch.

Oh did you completely forgot how he carried the team on his back all the way to this point.....putting up incredible numbers. Lakers are not better without kobe....if you really believe that. You don't know basketball or the lakers.

Something I do like about the schedule is that Gane 4 is a later start than the traditional 12:30 PDT starts that the Lakers often sleepwalk through on Sundays.

Yeah they are not playing better without Kobe. You could argue that they are better defensively but I think that is more a function of Nash being out than Kobe.

Some guys are playing more free because he's out, and of course playing better individually. But if you watch the offense it is clearly not better. Passing alone doesn't mean better play. What's the difference between passing the ball around the perimeter for 10 seconds before Blake has to try and create a shot and holding the ball for 10 seconds?

With Kobe (at least in the last few games), there was less passing but each pass actually had a purpose. Now it's just passing around the perimeter because nobody wants the ball (or nobody feels they can take their man off the dribble).

The idea that they are better without Kobe is total BS. Without Kobe they'd be way out of the playoffs.

Regarding Kobe's lack of defensive, i think it's way overblown. I know some of the nim-wit ESPN stat guys think it's a hot topic to talk about Kobe's defense, but most of them are semi-retarded arts-graduates, who shouldn't even be allowed near a calculater.

At his worst, Kobe is still a decent defender and while he sometimes misses assignments he can still get steals and blocks, can contest shots (unlike the rest of the guards) and he can defend 1s, 2s and 3s.

He is also good at reading what type of play the opponent is running which helps the whole team.

"I don't think I've ever seen anybody put that much pressure on a point guard full court for a whole game," Jennings said. "It was probably the best defense somebody's ever played on me since I've been in the league -- just constantly putting pressure on me, touching me, hitting me at all times in the game. He wouldn't let me just catch the ball easy, and I wasn't able to get the ball a lot, so it was pretty difficult." -  Brandon Jennings after loss to LA on Jan 15th.

Spurs in 5, and I think it's closer to a sweep than the Lakers pushing it to 6.

The Lakers were able to win their last 2 in large part because Blake scored 20+. I doubt that holds up. The Lakers are going to get destroyed on the perimeter. Blake's defense is better than Nash's, but Blake was also the primary PG when Lillard and Curry had career nights. I think the Lakers defending Parker well was a once-in-a-blue-moon thing, like the Lakers defending Russell Westbrook well in their only win against them this season.

Have to hope for some letdowns from the Spurs as well. I'm not as anti-MDA as most around here, but he doesn't stand a chance against Pop.

Interesting stat on our second half of the season success despite injuries

Pincus:
The Lakers' top seven lost 172 games(due to injury) and yet the team still finished the season winning 70% of its final 40 games.
