I will say Goudelock has a good work ethic and is best when he plays with an edge.

When he first got to the D-league his first 14 games he was...not that good.

First 14 games on a team this was his stats

Points:20.3
Shooting percentage: 43%
3point percentage: 27%
Assists: 3.4
Rebounds: 3.4
free throw: 82%

After those 14 games his team let him go.

He worked extremely hard and I'm guessing the motivation of being let go he developed and edge and became a better player.

Over the next 37 games his stats and shooting percentage increased noticably.

Points: 21.4
Field goal: 49%
3point field goal: 40%
Assists: 5.8
Steals: 1.8
Rebounds: 4.1
Free throws: 84%

And thus became an MVP candidate and helped lead his new team to the finals.

I don't expect him to shoot 49% from the field against NBA competition. But it does show improvement to his game and drive towards being better.

For him and CDR to be MVP candidate in the D-league means they were two of the very best in the D-league this year, with CDR it's expected, with Goudelock, not so much.

So he HAS improved vastly, how it translates in the NBA remains to be seen. But at least you know now he ain't the same rookie he was last year and even then that Rookie was a deadly three point shooter and could put up 10-15 points on a given night, if he's better than that which he is it helps us.

I wanted CDR too, but I'm not going to hate Goudelock for not being him, nor will I act like he didn't improve as I actually watch the dleague on youtube :P

Hope he does well :)

Although he remains unsure what role he will provide, Andrew Goudelock said he will dress in uniform tonight when the Lakers host the San Antonio Spurs at Staples Center and will stay with the team for however long the season lasts.

Goudelock flew into Los Angeles Sunday morning after spending the previous night playing with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in their 98-97 win over the Maine Red Claws in Game 2 of the NBA Development League quarterfinals in Hidalgo, Texas.

Goudelock’s return to the Lakers after playing here in his rookie year last year coincides with Kobe Bryant’s season-ending left torn Achilles’ tendon that required surgery.

“Obviously, I’m not Kobe Bryant and I can’t do what he does,” Goudelock said in a phone interview with this newspaper. “I want to come in and try to help get these guys to he playoffs its been a hard fought season.”

The Lakers (43-37) enter their game against San Antonio (58-21) with a one-game lead over the Utah Jazz (42-38) for the Western Conference’s eighth playoff spot with two games remaining.

The Lakers waived Goudelock during training camp this season, but he earned a spot in the rotation last season because of his outside shooting. Goudelock averaged 4.4 points on a 37.3 percent mark from three-point range in his rookie season last year with the Lakers. Goudelock has ranked 14th overall in scoring the NBA’s Development League, averaging a combined 21.1 points per game in two different stints with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and the Siox Falls Skyforce.

Goudelock said he “feels like he’s gotten 10 times better” within the last year, most notably at playing the point guard position.

It astounds you?

Mike D'Antoni is the coach.

Defensive coach Mike Brown cut CDR also...and G-Lock...

Pretty much what I was thinking.

In the Dwight Howard thread Real Deal pointed out we haven't enough shooters(consistently) to make it work running 4 out 1 in.

I'm guessing they signed Goudelock to remedy some of that.

But again was CDR available for off-season? We still don't know.

CDR was...and was passed over.

Then the only other reason that I can see them getting Goudelock was to play the 1 if Nash isn't back(off the bench) and play the 2 when Meeks is sucking. Mitch apparently doesn't trust Morris or Duhon to do it. Wish we could waive Ebanks like the Spurs did stephen jackson and sign cdr too though :P

A nice highlight of his near triple double with steals if for nothing else watch it for the announcer who flubs up so many words and says Goudelock's name 20 different ways and loves to say "wow" after dramatic pauses :P

Dwight is the focal point of our offense now.

First thing we need? Shooters. Meeks, Nash, Goudelock, Blake...okay, I guess.

I'm interested how this idiot coach we have manages this team now that Kobe isn't there to fix his mistakes.

Apparently Memphis was trying to get Goudelock too, but he decided to join the Lakers.
