Good to hear Kobe.  Now let's hope your team plays at a high level that is above .500 ball until you return. That'd be ideal.

Kobe Bryant: Doubters continue to motivate me

The Los Angeles Lakers are opening the 2013-14 season without Kobe Bryant in uniform. When will he return?

Not even Bryant knows the answer. He told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday that he doesn't plan to play until he can perform at an "exceptional" level.

Bryant took some time to answer questions from Yahoo Sports on Tuesday about his future.

Q: Your naysayers don't expect you to come back the same because of your Achilles injury. What should we expect when you return?

Bryant: "Personally? I'm going to be the way I've always been. Maybe a little better. It's always interesting, it's motivating to hear people doubt me. The same guys put the nail in my coffin six years ago. They're still trying."

Q: How do you find a good medium between your competitiveness and also being cautious in rehabbing?

Bryant: "It's all in the same bucket. I'm really competitive. To come back at anything less than to play exceptional basketball is not really smart, then I'm not going to be at my top level and that makes the critics right. That [stuff] isn't going to happen."

Kobe sounding  like feisty/angry Kobe again, last year he seemed like he was mellowing a bit, now he sounds like he is out for blood. I love it.

^ Definitely! These are especially good signs:

Q: What's the latest on your Achilles rehabilitation?

Bryant: "This week I'm pushing it again and measuring it and seeing how it does. I pushed it really hard [Monday], and it feels pretty good today. So I will push it again [Tuesday] night then measure it [Wednesday] morning and continue to go from there."

Q: What do you mean by you will "measure" it?

Bryant: "I'll push it. I will increase the workload a lot and the next day you see how the ankle joint [feels]. At the end of the day it's really the ankle joint. The tendon is fine, but the ankle joint from being immobilized so much is naturally stiff. So it's about breaking through that and increasing that flexibility. If it recovers fine the next day you can push it and keep on going."

With the current group looking like they will actually win some games, I think Kobe now has an exceptionally greater confidence level in staying out a bit longer.

My guess is he'll be back by thanksgiving.

I think the group looking how it does makes Kobe want to come back even more to be honest. I can't wait til he gets back. I want to see him and the real Gasol reunited.

Kobe controlling the rock, setting up these shooters & more athletic guys that can cut to the hoop is gonna be something to watch.

It's one thing to be "streaky."   Sadly, I think that's the best that can be said of the guy based upon what I've seen.

He is the definition of a black hole on offense.

And frankly, I think he plays like a guy who thinks he has about 2-4 weeks to prove himself before Kobe comes back, and the only way he knows how to do this is to try and score every time he touches the ball.

Take your time, Kob. Seriously no point in rushing back this season. Let these young bucks play, see if anyone can show that they deserve to come back and be apart of the future.

12/25 is looking more and more like Christmas.  But I hope he's gotten weeks of practice in with the team to get those system aspects down.

Dunno if this was posted but:

Dave McMenaminVerified account @mcten

Kobe says he has had a good week of training and would count it as part of the 3 weeks of conditioning he said he'd need to return

Barring any setbacks, I see Kobe back at the end of November, early December.

He's gonna do three weeks of conditioning and then probably two weeks of practice with us(5 on 5)
