To me Kobe made Pau. Rewind a bit to Kwame vs the Suns.
Catch and dunk or layup or get fouled or wide open jumper.
Kwame was just inept.
Pau had some skills, but every year I remember being disappointed in Pau whenever Kobe was compromised.
Pau is always Pau to me except for when he is injured. But Kaman step in for moments and play the role of Pau.
There is no replacement on this team for what Kobe does.
Kobe didn't make Pau. He made him BETTER, but he didn't MAKE him.
Kobe is this team's MVP, has been for years. Pau was/is the perfect compliment to a player like Kobe but like I said, Kobe is the consistent key in our success. It's always been about his teammates stepping up.
Pau in Playoffs since joining Lakers (Kobe in playoffs)
2008 - 17/9 (Lost in Finals) - 30/5/5
2009 - 18/11 (Champions) - 30/5/5
2010 - 19/11 (Champions) - 29/6/5
2011 - 13/8 (Swept by Mavs 2nd round) - 22/3/3
2012 - 12/9 (Lost 4-1 to OKC 2nd round) - 30/5/4
Outside of 2011 where Kobe was battling that ankle injury which hurt his performance, you can see the role that Pau Gasol plays.
We aren't in disagreement much about the role that Kobe plays, just about the significance of Pau that you seem to downplay. We all know if Kobe is not playing at a high level, it's not going to end in success.
