A couple of things that stood out from the Kobe Up close event..

- He acknowledged he isn't sure he'll be ready for opening night. He may be ahead of schedule but by how much?
- The goal is play lesser minutes. But how much less?

How many games do you guys think he'll play and what his minutes/numbers will be?

I'll go with 62 games. 34 minutes, 20 points/5 rebs/ 4 assists.

However one thing Im optimistic about is what Dr. Robert Klapper said. He correctly predicted last year that Dwight would be ready for opening night last he just wasnt sure how effective he'd be but did say he should be in decent game shape. Made same prediction for Kobe that he'd be ready for opening night...just not sure how effective.

He has a deeper bench yet less top heavy team. At least this year he has 2 people capable of relieving him of minutes. So that's a definite positive.

I hope Kobe/Lakers do not do whats Rose and the Bulls did. Every week, we heard that Rose is "almost there" and "getting better", but it was just a tactic to keep the fans' hopes up and sell tickets.

He'll still be around 25 points a game. Don't see that big of a scoring decline.

75 games minimum
25 points minimum
5 rebounds minimum
4 assists minimum

I expect nothing less from Kobe. If he can't put up those stats than he will not be out there playing and he will be the first to say that. It's simple.

I don't ever see Kobe scoring 19-20 ppg over a long stretch. He would just retire. He's said this himself.

.@DrRobertKlapper: In my opinion, Kobe's gonna be 80% (of what he was last year). I still believe that he'll be there for opening night.

He also said Kobe will get better as season continues and believes he'll be 90% of what he was last year. Klapper correctly predicted when Dwight was traded here that he'd be ready for opening night...he may not be at his best to start the season but will get better as season progresses

kobe at 80 to 90% is still better than 95% of the League...so I guess the 2010/2011 version of himself? Not too bad. Will be interesting to see how his game evolves this year and how he changes it up to still remain effective. Will he play a PG/play maker version? Lots of questions and uncertainties

So basically if Kobe gets through this season healthy he'd be basically rounding out his health by the time the playoffs arrive.

If we can manage his minutes intelligently that would be ideal.

Makes that 2014-2015 season that much more important as he'd be entering the season at full form by then.

Most important thing is that he gets through THIS season healthy.

If Kobe's game relied heavily on getting to the rim like D-Wade, I could see a big dip in stats. But because Kobe has been able to adjust his game over time from the perimeter, I still see him putting up quality numbers in the range of 25 ppg. Of course, his jumper might not have as much lift to it, but he has always been one of the best guys in the league at adjusting his game.

Idk why this reminded me of Goku training hard in 99x gravity on his way to Planet Namek, Frieza, and the Ginyu Force.

Yeah, I watched DBZ when I was a teen.

AWESOME NEWS!!   Kobe WELL ahead of schedule!!!

Kobe Bryant injury: Updated timetable in 'a few weeks', running on treadmill now

20130310_gav_sv5_012.0_standard_709.0.jp

The Lakers star is running on an anti-gravity treadmill now and team doctors will re-examine Kobe Bryant in a few weeks to determine a timetable on his return.

Kobe Bryant posted a video of him running on an anti-gravity treadmill Monday morning, and the Los Angeles Lakers will be re-examining his progress "in a few weeks" to determine an "updated" timetable, according to Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register.

Bryant tore his Achilles on April 12. The footage of him running comes roughly four months since the injury occurred.

The treadmill he was running on is an AlterG treadmill. It is made specifically for rehabilitation purposes. The treadmill can "unweigh" a person up to 80% of their body weight in one percent increments and reduces running impact. No specifics regarding Bryant's settings were announced.

Dipping back into the Silver Screen and Roll archives, we had the chance to speak to an orthopaedic surgeon who claimed a six-to-nine month recovery window was "unlikely" at the age of 34 as most patients do not begin running until six months in. Bryant running on the treadmill four months into his recovery furthers the notion that he is well-ahead of schedule.

Even though its a progress, the media is overreacting the running thing, Kobe is using an anti-gravity treadmill which unweights by 80% no ?

Yes it can go up to 80%.  But they don't know how low he had it.   The fact of the matter is he's running 2 months ahead of schedule =p

75 games 32 minutes MDI

as far as running, this means Kobe is 2 weeks from being ready to push himself at a typical recover from surgery level.

the treadmill is always a good sign.

BTW, LeBron has been in the club quite a bit this summer. He'll be ready but what about Chalmers and the rest?

Who's hungrier than Kobe this season for a title?
