Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Eddie Jordan is engaged in serious talks with Rutgers University about becoming the embattled basketball program's next head coach, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

In the aftermath of the scandal surrounding former coaches physically abusing players in practices, Rutgers offered Jordan the job after University of Rhode Island coach Danny Hurley turned down an offer from the school earlier this week, sources said.

Jordan will meet with Rutgers officials face-to-face, sources said, this weekend to try to finalize an agreement.

A Rutgers alumnus, Jordan played for the school's 1976 Final Four team and has strong backing from influential alumni and trustees, including NBA commissioner David Stern.

Jordan, an early proponent of the Princeton offense in the NBA, is considered an innovative mind with a charismatic presence.

^ At least by sleeping they guarantee themselves he won't hit the players.

Didn't he come here to coach the Princeton Offense? Why would we still need him? And why would he want to leave the Lakers to coach at freaking Rutgers anyway? None of this adds up!!1!

Good for Rutgers, he's good with young players and his style of offense suits the college game very well. Good for Eddie :)

I don't think people here realize the true severity of this and just how much he will be missed.
