I had never seen the sum of both Regular Season and Playoff points, so decided to put this chart together. Enjoy:

Kobe could realistically pass Kareem in Total Points in 3 years.

I'll give him 2 seasons...3 season tops. There's no way he's retiring if he's this close knowing Kobe.

Honestly, I don't see him passing Kareem... because I see him retiring a few years from now. I hope I'm wrong.

If he wants to pass Kareem in 2 seasons he has to average 39 ppg and play all 82 games. I highly doubt it. Even in 3 seasons is not possible i think, he has to average 30 ppg in order to get 7000 he needs. So a good, healthy 4 seasons may be enough for him to pass Kareem but nothing less. If he plays 4 more seasons and play like 75 games a season he needs 24 ppg which i assume he can do but i would not be surprised if father time finally curses him too. Passing Kareem is not as easy as you think.

Damn 5/7 of the players above played for Lakers.  Lakers is really one great organization.

Worst case, Kobe ends up in 3rd place.

I think he can pass Kareem. It would defy everything he has stated about his looming retirement, but he can pass him if he wants to.

I think Kobe is really just focused on Jordan at this point. Eclipsing him in points and tying him in rings sounds realistic.

But if Kobe gets that 6th and we're still positioned to contend for another one, he's not retiring. No [expletive]ing way. He'll play a season from a wheelchair if he has to.

I thought playoff points count towards your overall point total. That's dumb
