He's our 4th.

But in terms of taking initiative when Kobe is off, he seems the only one "willing" enough to do it.

Neither Nash nor Dwight have that in their DNA right now. Nash can do it but he shouldn't be relied on for it or he'll let you down if he's having a reluctant day.

Dwight isn't gonna do it because he"s never been that type of player.

So who is left? Gasol?

Realize of those 4

Kobe, metta, Dwight, Nash that only Kobe and Metta have shown willingness to take initiative and the only one willing to take pressure off of Kobe and criticism if he fails. Nash was meant to do that this year...but its few and far between and 90 percent of the time will get his offense because of Kobe and Dwight can't do much with Gasol screwing up interior spacing and even when it isn't you have to count on him to make free throws as he'll either be double teamed or fouled.

What this means is that with Metta out, if Kobe is having an off night you'll have to depend on Nash or Dwight to carry your offensive load and neither has been that kind of player nor had that kind of mentality. This means if Nash is on a reluctant day and Dwight is being played a certain way or his free throws are off then Kobe's gonna have to take more shots through a slump and work even harder coming off injury...

So like I said before, we had better hope that Kobe doesn't go into a slump or it's going to be extremely painful to watch.

Haha just because Metta is "willing" to take the initative doesn't mean it's a good thing, he shoots below average from basically everywhere on the court, is the next black hole after Kobe even tho he's one of our worst offensive players and can't handle the ball very well. Another reason why Metta might seem like he's more willing than the others is because he is always the first option to double off of when Steve, Kobe and Dwight are threatening a defense... Watch whoever guards Metta and tell me if he spends more time roaming than actually staying with Metta

When Metta's playing the 3 when Gasol is the 4, yes Metta's defender roams because Metta is the floor spacer in that lineup(which he SHOULN'T BE)

But when Clark is at the 3 and Metta is at the 4, Metta has a high efficiency rating and shoots a higher percentage and takes maybe 3, three pointers.

That's why Metta belongs at the 4.

Look at the spare minutes at the 4 he got last night, 2-3 and 7 points before hurting himself.

When Metta plays the 3 and has to be main floor spacer because of it, his defender sags, but when Clark becomes floor spacer and Metta is battling for rebounds and attacking in the post the defender worries. It also frees up Dwight as Metta actually seems to operate interiorly better with Dwight and knows what the heck to do.

Teams WANT Gasol starting for that very reason, it takes Metta out of his best role and relegates him to main floor spacer.

I'd have thought that'd be obvious by now? :)

Metta shoots 34% from the 3pt line.  Not horrible but not great either.  To put it in perspective, he ranks 98th in the league this year, based upon percent made.  Yet he ranks 8th in 3pt attempts.  Everyone ahead of him in attempts has a higher make %. Combine the two stats and what to you get?  I guy who misses ALOT but keeps on shooting anyway.

^ this

As I said, when Gasol starts he's the main floor spacer and is going to get a majority of threes and it was only after Nash played off ball that the bnumber went down.

But even so Metta should NOT under any circumstances be our main floor spacing option... And sadly with Gasol in the starting lineup that's all his role is relegated to.

This is why its much preferred he play at the 4 and Clark get the job of guarding athletic threes and stretching the floor while Metta attacks from the post and fights for rebounds.

Two significant perfect parts for their roles... That all gets thrown to pot when Gasol starts.

Metta should be the starting 4 for this team while Jordan Hill is injured, no ifs ands or buts.

You want his threes to go down? Put him back at the 4 and clark at the 3 and Gasol on the bench.

Anything else and that's all you're gonna get(he can't attack in the post with both Gasol and Howard in there and Gasol screwing up spacing wth do you think he's gonna do!?)

this is a huge loss btw! Our only defensive wing who actually plays defense! Kobe isn't a top defender anymore at least he's not showing he is.

Oh cool one game. I'm talking about the whole season. He has been very inconsistent, he is a ball stopper on offense, his IQ is at 0 most of the time and his defense is below average now. He's garbage.

lol metta has been so inconsistent. Get off his jock already.

as can be said for you for the things you have said. Homerism.

LakeShow805 you are a terrible Laker fan. This fan base would be a lot better if haters like you would gtfo. What you say is retarded go join the heat or something you retarded [expletive]

Heart? Bull[expletive].

We need players that actually can play the game to run some smart offense, no terrible ball drivers, poor decision makers and inconsistent shooters that abort our plays over and over.

He's also the guy who got a charge at the end of the Wizards game that caused us to loss and destroys the flow of the offense most of the time

MWP defense is not that good!!! don't get me wrong he does still have quick hands but that's about it he can't stay infront of anybody anymore and his offense is extremely inconsistent some games he will hit every shot he puts up and then some games he will go 0-8

he reminds me of the older weak guy on the court who pretty much sucks REALLY bad but makes all the hustle plays and plays hard.... He gets everybody respect for hustling but get frustrated with how bad he is at everything else

You may not have much offense or defense but if you have heart that totally changes your game. He's also averaging his best as a Laker so he's a big loss

In a 48 minute game, especially one where you are at one point up 18, there is no single play that will lose you a game.  That was a complete team effort in losing the game.  Pau disrupting flow in the second half, Kobe playing hero ball and not respecting Ariza til he had over 20 points, Metta getting a charge very late, etc etc.  All adds up to a loss.

I have not looked at his stats just as a Laker, but compared to his career stats, it is not exactly a "career" year.  FG% is down a bit, assists are way down, PPG are down as well.

According to his brother, Daniel Artest on LG

http://forums.lakers...er=asc&start=50

Surgery set for tomorow. Looks like its gonna be a six week thing. I picked him up from the airport today. Really limping bad. Says its not painful like he thought it was gonna be. We at the dr office now and he's in a positive vibe. Just trying to focus on the solution, not the problem. He is itching to get back. I'll keep y'all REAL fans updated. Peace.

We probably saw the last of Ron Artest in a Laker uniform
