Jerry West isn't the only Lakers great who still has confidence in his former team.

Magic Johnson, one of the Lakers' harshest critics this season, was optimistic about their chances with 13 regular-season games left.

"The Lakers, I’ll tell you what, they’re one of the most dangerous teams," he said. "They’ve got talent. And they’ve got two weeks to put it together, almost three weeks. They can still get this thing done."

The Lakers (36-33) have improved in recent weeks. They are also expected to get back Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol for Friday's game against Washington.

"If they get the right matchup in that first round, they could cause a lot of heartaches for people," Johnson said. "You have to remember in Miami, that first year, same thing, remember? They were up and down, looked great, looked bad. Then they went all the way to the final. This team still has time to get hot and get it together."

Either way Magic will say I told you so. If the Lakers do poorly, he'll say told you so. If they do well, he'll say I told you so. Who really cares what he says anymore?

I love Magic. How can you dislike the man who has done more for LA basketball (and so much for the city and basketball in general) than anyone except Dr Buss? Yeah, he flip flops, says some disagreeable stuff on Twitter or NBA Tonight, but no big deal.

I love magic as a player, I hate him as an analyst. Problem?

How long until he flip-flops back to saying how ashamed he is of this team? I'd give it a week or two.

I'm pretty sure making it to the finals and losing to the heat would put 98% of this board on suicide watch

And lets not forget all the forum goers(yes I still remember you ALL) that were talking about how the Lakers should tank the season, those that said the front office doesn't care, those that said they were ashamed of the team, some even saying they were ashamed to be Lakers fans this years.

Very few thought the team would turn it around and those of us that said they would were laughed at or poked fun at.

Fast forward 2 months and now everyones "faith" is restored. Which is easily destroyed after one loss as it was gained over 2 months of winning.

Yet some are gonna actually bash Magic?

You takin' shots at fido?

There were MANY more posters than fido.

Fido was just one I disagreed with often.

But no, a lot of posters here doubted the Lakers and said some ridiculous things.

Fido never said anything like "Lakers should get rid of Kobe!"

And fido never said anything like "The Clippers have a better GM"

And fido never said "Dwight is useless!"

Fido and I actually agree on how the Lakers do need Dwight.

Fido and I may disagree but he NEVER said anything so outlandish that I shook my head and threw up my hands like I did many others and I respect his passion as a fan.

This change of mind is not what would be defined as a "flip flop".

When Magic said they were" done and should blow the roster up" it was based on the information he had at the time. A lethargic, heartless team who acted as if they disliked one another.....lol.

However, things have changed. The most current information is the Lakers are a team that was written off from success, then dug down deep to find commitment to each other that formed a bond and gave them a intense focus to win. And now are a threat to the entire league.

And based on this new information Magic changed his opinion.

FYI: A "flip flop" is a reversal of a stand or position based on nothing but to appease the popular opinion.

Yes, as an analyst his opinion changes with the Lakers progress.

If they are doing bad they will look to him to critisize them top EXTREMES because that's the money in the story.

If they are doing well he'll "have faith" because thats the new story.

If they falter he'll be ashamed again cause it will be the story.

Its how the media works, and he's the biggest Laker name not named Kobe.

Its not coincidence we hear from him and Jerry West in the same day.
