Pau Gasol injury: Lakers forward could be back next week

Lakers forward Pau Gasol was back to doing basketball-related activities on Tuesday and could potentially return next week.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol returned to his "first extensive basketball workout" on Tuesday as he works his way back from a plantar faschia tear, according to the Orange County Register's Kevin Ding. The news adds to the expectation that Gasol could return to the Lakers by next week.

Gasol was seen practicing jumpers with Los Angeles assistant coach Darvin Ham on Tuesday and is expected to go at it again on Wednesday.

Gasol first tore his plantar faschia in a Feb. 5 game against the Brooklyn Nets and the initial diagnosis put his return at six-to-eight weeks. Last Thursday, Gasol was medically cleared to run and said via TwitCam that he had "minimal discomfort."

Tuesday marked the six-week point since the injury, CBS Sports' Ken Berger points out.

Hell be a good boost off the bench and maybe we can stop having meeks getting killed by bigger guys... As well have a 4 man big rotation of Pau/Howrd/Clark/Jamison...

His help is much needed despite all the criticism given to him by many, including myself.

"You watch anime?"

Good news to hear that he's coming along nicely...considering Dwight is the only real big the team has right now (even though this hasn't hurt them too much lately)

Wonder how Windu feels about this.

Windu will probably hire some snipers...lol

I must admit that I'm actually looking forward to him returning. Because he wasnt traded and we didnt add anyone at the deadline, Pau will actually help our bench depth. As much as his game has regressed especially defensively, I will take Pau at the 5 anyday over Clark,Jamison or Sacre. While I like many have ripped on Pau's game, be it warranted, he still has something to offer this team as the backup 5. Good luck to him getting healthy and I hope he can help us in our push for the Playoffs.

Though I'm happy that Pau is coming back, I just hope we don't see too much of him & Dwight on the floor at the same time. We've been much better off when only one of them is in the game at a time.

No doubt he'll help the team. I don't expect significance improvement from the bench with him but it will give more time for kobe/dwight and Nash/Pau

He better be ready to hit that mid-range jumper, post up from time to time (especially when he has mismatches), and at least play decent D cause we all know how atrocious he's been there most of the time.
