Metta world Peace defense seems

He can guard anybody in NBA exept 2 players

Lebron James and Kevin Durant.

and Jodie Meeks defense also improved alot!.

Metta's defense isn't a 48 minute thing anymore but he has his moments that still make him a respectable defender and one that will make someone pay for mistakes and that left hand vice grip has helped us out a LOT this year.

But like I said, he isn't gonna do it 48 minutes anymore but that's another reason we got Dwight, Metta actually funnels to dwight well.

I look back to the Celtics game, Paul Pierce lit us up for a quarter and a half, but midway through the 2nd metta adjusted, stopped Pierce a few times and blocked his shot, and for the second half Metta put Pierce in the "dungeon" and Pierce only scored 2 points. Or when Carmelo wore himself down so much trying to score on Metta(which he did) but he tired late in the game which we won and wasn't right for a 2 game span after.

It isn't going to be an 82 game 48 minute thing anymore, but its irreplacable when he's "on". Very similar to Battier some years ago in a sense that he wasn't the defender he once was, but he could still cause enough of a problem for it to matter. As does Metta.

Metta has good defensive games every 5-6 games.

Honestly some of you speak of basketball and it shows you don't really play much basketball. Kobe's said it, Dwight has said it, I remember MB and D'Antoni saying it, Metta is more of a defensive leader. He brings the intensity that sparks other guys to play off of him. There's no one on our team other that Kobe who can spark up the team with his demeanor like Metta. Dwight hasn't shown that yet. Most of you will think I'm saying Metta is a better defender than Dwight, which obviously isn't true. Sure, Metta lets his defender get past him cause he's not as young as he used to be, but he knows which direction to lead the guy and has the knowledge of how to play certain players. Metta brings it on defense, his offense is disturbing most of the time. And on the topic of him not being able to guard Durant or LeBron; is there anyone in the league who can guard these guys? They aren't called superstars for no reason. They can't even guard each other for the most part.

Don't try and say Metta lets his man by him because hes trying to lead him, that's ridiculous. Especially with the defense this team plays, we cannot allow penetration from the perimeter. The only thing Metta has left is his hand speed and his ability to body up in the post. He is absolute toast on the perimeter.

Metta defense is so over rated this season. Sure his defense is better than a non defensive players like nash or guys in the league who are not known for defense but his defense is nothing to write home about. You guys made it sound like Metta is still first team all defensive team player.  MWP will not be a laker next year. I gaurenteed it.

 

Every time he gets the ball on offense, my heart starts beating fast because eaither he brick a three pointer thinking he is larry bird or he starts dribbing and doing stupid offensive moves thinking he's kobe bryant.  He is less than half the player he once was.  He is done. He should be in the D league.  He should just come off the bench.

He's no Thabo Sefalosha but he can still be a "decent" defender.

We all know MWP's not the defender that he once was but the guy competes. He sticks to his man, puts a hand in their face & doesn't roam around like someone else loves to.... His hands are still very quick as he showed last night against Mason on NO's final play.

Meeks reminds me of Farmar on the defensive end.

Ron can "lock down"slower unathletic 3-4's. He has good hands but gambles too much trying to use them.

I could tolerate him off the bench playing less minutes.

A definite amnesty candidate.

Metta struggles guarding athletic 2's and 3's  for 48 minutes but he does pretty well against 4's.

MWP's defense has been non existant for most of this year. Honestly if it weren't for injuries and depth issues, I'd rather he play the bench 4 or something.
