Pau Gasol has started running and is "feeling good," Mike D'Antoni said. Tuesday marks six weeks, and the estimate was 6-8.

Pau Gasol might start practicing next week, Lakers Coach Mike D'Antoni said. Gasol will start running Thursday if no pain.

Good to know he's recovering fast, we know he'll be the backup C coming off the bench but how are we gonna use him? Is he gonna play alongside Dwight or just play backup C and play 15-20mins a game? Is he gonna play alongside Dwight late in games ahead of this working group of MWP/Jamison at the 4? We know spacing is gonna be a problem with Dwight/Pau frontcourt so would that mean more Meeks ahead of Clark and MWP then? Lots of questions to answer with late game lineups being the most important one

Clark has played 3/4 and at times in Orlando and here 5 in his career and is primarily a 3/4.

And he has been our 3 and Metta has been the 4. Did you just start watching?

He'll be coming off the bench at 5 and playing sparing minutes with Dwight finishing games sometimes and averaging about 24-28 minutes like he was when we started our streak before Dwight got hurt in phoenix.

Not sure how Gasol will react. Right before the injury, he was playing better than he had in years. Coming off the bench was good for him...I just hope we will still see more of that Gasol.

At worst he can replace Jamison as the back-up 5, which is actually quite a good thing. Also, he can play in cruch time as well as when D12 is in foul trouble.

He basically plays the 3 now...MWP defends the 4 and is in the post while Earl is on the perimeter a lot

According to 82games Clark is actually more effective as a 3 and Metta more effective as a 4.

I hope Pau joining the team doesn't screw up what we have going like when Amare came back to the Knicks and they started struggling.  I really disagree with D'Antoni wanting to start the game with Pau and Dwight, Pau cant space the floor and neither is a mobile player/ball handler.  Lots of turnovers early in the season was because Pau wouldn't be able to handle the ball pressure in the perimeter and he'd throw it away or hang on to it too long. He is a great passer but hes not a great ball handler.  We did well in January before he went down because he was coming off the bench

To clarify D'antoni said he looks to start and finish games with Pau "eventually"

Also some rumblings that Gasol may play tomorrow.

It was good for him, but I guarantee you that he didn't like it. It was more of him accepting the role. Do not forget that he averaged 20 and 12 or something (albeit without Dwight) in the starting lineup. The important part is D'Antoni figuring out how to work them both in the post, using Pau as the main post guy and Dwight as a mobile cutter. (I doubt he will figure this out.)

Amare screwed up the Knicks?
How about the injuries to key contributors. Amare's minutes were limited and he didn't play with the starters at all.

Also, they didn't change the way they play around him.

Get ready for a 7 footer to be standing out by the 3 point line all game.

Oh yea gotta love the 7 footer who cant play defense, has a sub 45% fg%, and stands at the 3 point line all the time. Thats so needed.

It sounds like D'Antoni has maybe seen that this team cannot run up and down the court like he wants. In the last couple of weeks there's been a lot less of Kobe and Nash pushing the ball up the floor in 3-4 seconds only to see they're going 1 on 4 and slow it down anyway.

The main benefit of Pau coming back will be that he will help stop the hemorrhaging of points when Dwight is off the floor, either for rest or for foul trouble. Dwight has been playing in foul trouble because a limited Dwight is better than Jamison trying to play center, but not better than Pau.

I'd love to see them run some high/low action with Pau up top and Dwight down low, especially when the defense is fronting Dwight. If the ball is in the wing/corner trying to get the ball into Dwight, but he's being fronted, have one of the off ball guards set a screen for Pau, who can take a high pass up by the free throw line and lob under to Dwight, take the shot, or make a pass.

Just take advantage of the matchups. We've seen teams run the same play over and over to take advantage of Meeks or Nash in the post, or take advantage of Pau when they get switched on a pick & roll. Very few teams have 2 guys who can both defend the pick and roll AND defend the post. When a play works, keep going at it until the opponent figures out how to stop it.
