I've noticed over the past 3-4 years in particular, that Kobe often starts out games with a flurry of assists, as he gets all his teammates involved, and frequently, we spring out to a big lead.

It's not uncommon to see Kobe with as many as 5 or 6 assists in the first several minutes of the game, but then, to also see him not get his next assist until the second half, some times not even until the 4th quarter.

Now, I understand fully that assists require a teammate to score a basket without getting fouled, and that the assister is not in complete control of what happens once he passes the ball.

But, I'm just curious if people think that Kobe could become a more consistent assist man throughout the course of the game; and if so, would it have a positive over-all impact on our team's offensive and over-all performance.

I would love fro Kobe to facilitate early, but take over in crunch time. So, yeah, I would say our Offense is better when Kobe passes.

He got every1 involved early, but once the lead was cut he took over and increased the lead to larger than it had been. Exactly what he should do. Manage the game and when your team needs you, step up.

i rhink kobe has figured out that balance despite SKIP BAYLESS calling him weird kobe when he doesnt shoot
Again - this team, as currently constructed won't make it out of the second round of the playoffs, let alone the West or win the Finals.---fido on 2011 Lakers

Kobe should look to get his teammates involved and only take over when the team is struggling/in the 4th quarter. Our team plays better when Kobe gets his teammates involved early in the game.

When you have two 7 footers in the front line up, you should try to feed them the ball before looking for your shot.

I wanna see him get more, but it's not necessary for Kobe to directly get more assists. I'd love to see our team keep putting up great assist numbers though. Kobe could make a good pass that leads to another one that leads to a great shot.

It probably would be. Not just for Kobe though, but the team as a whole would probably have better offense if everyone had higher assists. However, Kobe handles the ball a lot so when he does create opportunities for others, they'll have to connect. Sometimes I prefer it when Kobe scores though.

It's crazy that there's even talk about our offense being better.

It doesn't really matter. Kobe's career high in assists is 6.0 APG, which he achieved in 2004-05...our worst season since the early 90's.

Our offense only gets better when our defense improves. Better defense leads to easy points on the break, or wide-open shots, and the other team being too worn out to defend us.
