I remember there was that one picture with Dwight and a girl before the trade to LA. There was a ton of analysis (not here) of what color the hat should be and if it really was a Lakers hat. Good times.

Dwight is not going anywhere.  And I am not sure that is a good thing.

why not?

Don't we need a Center and rebounding and defensive big man to contend for a title?

They also need a reliable inside scoring from a big man to contend for a title.

Absolutely, maybe just not THIS big man.  The league has become a guard dominated sport.  I'd rather find the next Durant/ Irving/ Kobe  and spend my big money there, then find a serviceable big man to play defense EVERY NIGHT and rebound EVERY NIGHT, and pay him alot less than the max.

With that model in mind, my big man is gonna look alot less like Dwight and alot more like Janick Noah.

not necessarily. The 90's was the era of the big man. Ewing, Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Zo, Smitz, Divac, Daughtery, Dikembe, Duncan. Every team had a BIG or 2.

And who won 6 of the 10 chips that decade using Bill Cartwright, Luc Longley and Will Purdue as center?

And the Pistons won in 90 with Lambier as center.

Then Houston x2(Hakeem) and Spurs(Timmy) got chips.

So that was 7 of 10 years chips were won with the guard as the premier player. In a league dominated by big men. And in todays game theres not nearly as many Bigs that dominate.

D12 is the best one followed by Bynum who doesnt even play....lol. Then Chandler I guess.

So a BIG isnt 100% what it takes to win a chip in todays game. But in the coming future show me another Shaq or Dream and Ill say differently.

you just named 3 PF's ^. The Centers you named were on my post above. And I even threw in Duncan, even though the Spurs deny him as a Center.

At the time Grant at 6'-9", 215 lbs or Rodman 6'-7", 210 lbs wernt considered a "big".

Today they may qualify though.

Bulls Centers were Luc, Bill and Will as I said above.

On our current course, I fear Orlando has a better shot at getting back to the finals before we do.  Why?  Because they realized the gig was up with their current roster, blew it up and started rebuilding.  We are still in the delusional/ denial stage.

They're still considered "bigs". Don't necessarily have to be at the center position.

The game of basketball will always need someone who's willing and capable of doing the dirty work: defending, grabbing boards, hard fouls, and etc.

You do know that Hakeem was 6-9 right, and mourning was 6-10, barely

With shoes yes. Without shoes I believe he was 6-9 but the point stands that a big man doesn't have to be 7 foot
