I really want to see Dodgers go for a SS and force Hanley to 3B. It will be so much easier on his body and I would rather have a defensive specialist at SS than 3B.

I thought Kozma for the Cardinals was money as well. Really shows how valuable a defensive shortstop could be

A very loose looking Mattingly gave his final media appearance of the year and bluntly stated, Fox Sports:

“Yeah, I love it here,…I like being here. But I don’t want to be anywhere you’re not wanted.”

Mattingly then added,

“This has been a frustrating, tough year, honestly,…I think when you are in with a club like this, basically as a lame duck, with the payroll and the guys that you have, it puts you in a tough spot in the clubhouse. When you’re put in this position, the organization basically says, ‘We don’t know if you can manage or not.’

“That’s the position I’ve been in all year long. So that’s not a great position for me as a manager. That’s the way the organization wanted it last year. That’s fine. At this point it is what it is.”

Then stop making those asinine decisions that leaves all of SoCal scratching their heads, Don. Manage better.

Don Mattingly will return as #Dodgers manager next season. His agent said so. Now, team president Stan Kasten is saying it, too.

As I said already, the candidates out there are not strong by any means. There wasn't an upgrade over Mattingly if you look at the available managers.

I'm okay with Mattingly coming back. He needs a good bench coach (experienced former manager) to be in his ear and direct him at times. Joe Torre was the same way and needed help from guys like Larry Bowa to get things done.

We're 4-52 in the regular season by the way when we trail in 6th inning or later. This guy has no tactical knowledge to make an impact on the game

Which is why he needs a good bench coach.

Little do people realize that Joe Torre was average as a coach despite winning championships. But he always had guys like Larry Bowa who helped him in his decision making.

From what I understand about Hillman, he never challenged Mattingly and always let him make whatever decision he wanted. His input was minimal and that was an issue.

These are my feelings about Mattingly.  Yes, he has made very questionable decisions and I've been very critical of him.  The flip side to that is he just completed his third year as a manager.

2011: 82-79 (w/ a lineup that consisted of Barajas/Loney/Carroll/Gordon/Uribe/Gwynn/Kemp/Ethier

2012: 86-76 (With a hurt Kemp and didn't acquire Hanley and Gonzalez until August)

2013: 92-70 (Started season with injured Hanley, slumping Kemp, and Luis Cruz who sucked).

When we finally got healthy, we saw what this team could do so that's promising.  As I've said, Joe Torre was an average manager but talent won out in NY and I think the same can happen here in LA.

The 4-52 record when trailing after the 6th inning statistic sounds terrible but how many of those games were in the first half of the season when this team was riddled with injuries? It's a very deceiving stat because we know all too well that there were plenty of games where we just didn't put up any runs for our pitchers and we couldn't get that big hit with RISP.  That's not on Mattingly, that's on the players.

Again, I'm not the biggest fan of Mattingly but I know he can improve.  3 seasons which include one under McCourt, another in a transition period, and one full season under new ownership is very hard to gauge, especially when you have major injuries at key points in each season.   Some people blame Mattingly for the playoff loss to the Cardinals but we weren't winning without a healthy Hanley Ramirez.

Mattingly was a problem, but he was just part of it.  Inconsistent offense was far more of an issue than our manager.

Yeah, I don't get the Mattingly hate...When it all comes down to it, he made a few bad decisions, but he wasn't the guy hitting into DP's, failing with runners in scoring position, etc..that is flat out on the players. I think he can be a great manager, and I think players like him and want to play hard for him. I also think that if you're talking about these playoffs, the Kemp, Hanley and Ethier injuries did us in more than anything else (I think we probably beat STL in 5 games, or maybe sweep them with those guys playing, and healthy, even if Craig was fully healthy).

Pretty interested to see if we can get Tanaka - Some scouts are saying that he's going to be better than Yu Darvish. Just wish we could trim some of the fat of our bad contracts.
