In a lengthy discussion with Ryan Ruocco on ESPN Radio,

Stephen A. Smith said Thursday that Dwight Howard still believes he will wind up in Brooklyn, despite the impediments, and that while he might be "delusional," it is not impossible. Smith added, the Nets would

have to "capitulate" and the Lakers would have to be "convinced" Howard is going to leave before any deal can even be discussed. Among the other points made by Smith in discussing Howard's current situation

last March's trade deadline debacle: --Howard told Rudy Gay that he "messed up" by getting traded to Toronto, that he "should have waited and ended up with me in Brooklyn." (One problem with that, however:

Smith said Howard told that to Gay when the Lakers played the Raptors in Toronto recently. The Lakers haven't visited Toronto since the Gay trade...although a few days before the trade, the Lakers and Howard

visited Memphis.) --Dan Fegan, Howard's agent was unaware the center had opted to stay with the Magic the night before last season's trade deadline, that Howard "did that behind Dan Fegan's back." Smith said,

"if Dan Fegan had his way, he would have been in Brooklyn last year." Ruocco, the YES broadcaster, said he knew that. --The Magic did a "phenomenal job" of getting Howard's family, particularly his father, behind

Problem I have with this report is Stephen A Smith said when Lakers played Toronto he told Rudy Gay should've waited I would've been in Brooklyn next year? Maybe he meant to say Memphis because when Lakers played Toronto Rudy Gay wasn't on the team yet.

Dwight is laughing in what is supposed to a somber time, and he doesn't even want to stay. His name is bigger than his game now. If he won't commit himself to LA (more than a contract commitment, a commitment to play his hardest for LA, which I doubt will happen), then try to get draft picks along with any other trades we make. 2013-2014 will be a horrible tank year, but we can rebuild with some young talent and cap space in 2014.

I think we all wish Dwight would be a little more serious. Kobe is a rare breed indeed, but I think Dwight needs to be a little more concerned. Hopefully this gets figured out.

Well, we know he talked to him recently. But, he seems to blow little things people say out of proportion though. No way Kobe was going to stay. Lebron wanted to go to New York.

My guess is that he probably has people he knows inside, but he doesn't quantify the info he gets correctly. That's why he's right sometimes, but wrong other times. He got Lebron going to Miami correct eventually, but he kept insisting he was going to NY a lot before that.

Waited for what? Gay was locked in for a few more years... did not have a no-trade clause...
