So while watching the Lakers vs. Nets game I was amazed when they viewed this statistic.
As we know, many Kobe "haters" tend to throw out the "ball hog" line yet check this out...

NBA All-Time Leading Scorers

1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Career Points: 38,387 Career Assist: 5,660
2. Karl Malone Career Points: 36,928 Career Assist: 5,248
3. Michael Jordan Career Points: 32,292 Career Assist: 5,633
4. Wilt Chamberlain Career Points: 31,419 Career Assist: 4,643
5. Kobe Bryant Career Points: 30,813 Career Assist: 5,677

i will say that i hate using assists to determine a ball hog, cause you know the other player has to make that shot right?

and within what? 3-4 seconds or something, doesn't always happen

that said, kobe has quite a few assists for a SG

Well that argument can go both ways cause you either can be a good passer to setup your teammate for a great shot or it could work vice versa with a miss.

If you really think about it he's not really a ball hog. A ball hog is someone who doesn't care about his team and winning. Sure he takes bad shots and should pass more in certain situations but the term "ballhog" just seems so negative.

Kobe's averaged the most assists on the team almost every season he's played with the Lakers if you want to go that route.

But honestly, assists aren't a good measure of "ball hog-ness." Allen Iverson averaged close to 8 assists a game once and I don't see anyone calling him an unselfish player.

Although this is impressive, we are comparing him to three big men and he just recently passed MJ this season despite playing more seasons than him. Kobe is one of the greatest all around players in league history, his passing ability is not just impressive for a scorer it is ELITE and before he started breaking his fingers in the 08 season he had one of the best handles in the entire league.

To be fair Kobe didn't play his first 2 years in the league.

I've always liked Steve Blake.

I guess comparing him to 3 big players who's meant to rebound instead of assist and MJ who is also a ball hog but can actually shoot 50% fg then yeah kobe is not a ball hog i guess. Lol.

Why wouldn't I want the ball to be in one of Top 10 player's hands? o.O If Kobe hadn't established himself as a deadly scorer (or ball-hog as the other party likes to call, whatever) we wouldn't have won 5 titles in his term. Same goes to all other 4 guys in that list, except for Karl Malone, he was just cursed.

My favourite Karl Malone stat: 11 consecutive seasons of 2000+ points. In that span he missed only 4 games. Insane.
