Hah…now we’re talking! From the time the strains of Kashmir hit my ears…my unwavering love affair with the band’s music has spawned a collection of tapes, LPs, CDs and memorabilia that span their career. I’ve always thought they were The Beatles of the hard rock genre. From raw blues, to pastoral acoustic numbers, to majestic 8mm Disneyesque opuses…Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones created a catalog of varying, intensity and force. Light and shade as Page describes it. Prince of all people once said Led-Zeppelin’s music was like looking into a kaleidoscope. That coming from an artist who hardly praises anyone. Their live shows were not a note for note renditions of the studio numbers but were marathons of sheer power, spontaneity and brilliance.

Yep...Kashmir I think represented the group more than the celebrated Stairway To Heaven. Here's how I would rank them personally if I were to pick ONLY five:

1. Kashmir
2. Achilles Last Stand
3. Stairway To Heaven
4. Whole Lotta Love
5. The Song Remains The Same

oh my personal five is

1.When The Levee Breaks
2.The one Cadillac song - Rock And Roll
3.Kashmir
4.Stairway To Heaven
5.Black Dog

Good list though a majority of them are from the Fourth LP. Their songs are now available for download on ITunes I believe. With #1, the opening drumbeats is one of the most sampled tracks in their canon. I know that The Beastie Boys nicked it.
