The Los Angeles Lakers remain confident that they will re-sign Dwight Howard and do not plan on entertaining a trade before the February deadline.
Sources say the one issue that could give make Howard hesitant about committing to the Lakers would be D'Antoni.
While D'Antoni was head coach of the New York Knicks, he told the front office that he preferred Tyson Chandler to Howard, according to a source.
The Lakers are confident the power of their brand, market and ability to pay him the most money will convince him to stay.
"Even if they're right, and Dwight stays, do you want Dwight unhappy and feeling uninvolved with D'Antoni?" said one source tied to both the Lakers and Howard.

Coaches these days want financial security, the least they will accept is 3 years min.If that is true MD will be fired. Pathetic really cu they will owe so much money to coaches. They should have given him 1 year contract not a 3.

kobe has given that same death stare to COach D but ESPN did not devot a column to it. The media shapes dumbdowned peoples minds easily when they feel like creating the news instead of reporting on it.

I've trusted mostly everything they've done but if they trade Howard before this deadline, that means they would have in the last 3 months:
- Passed on Phil Jackson
- Hired D'Antoni to please Nash, a 38 year old point guard who was expected to be a role player, not treated like our star player
- Traded our next franchise player in favor of keeping a coach who refuses to adjust his offense and coaches zero defense
Yeah that's enough for me to lose the confidence I had in this front office.
Do the right thing, fire D'Antoni, and beg Phil to come back for one last season with the guarantee that Brian Shaw will be the next head coach of this team starting in 2014.

I fear that Orlando will win a title, or at leats be a contender before the Lakeras are again. Why? Because the FO appears to have an ability to evaluate talent, they have stockpiled draft picks and have what appears to have a good young coach. All of the above are areas of failure for the Lakers right now.

No Orlando is not winning anything anytime soon. When it comes down to it, that franchise is a mess.
The Lakers don't go away for long periods of time. I don't worry about that.

Wow, I can't comprehend how people are so emotional.
I mean I'm disappointed but DAMN, I know that this season is just more of a messed up situation than a sign of things to come.
I mean Last Season, people said the Lakers might have to amnesty KObe to turn things around...Then we Got Dwight and Nash and Jamison and Meeks and people CROWNED us.
I think the Lakers need less FANS anyway, so all those who have lost faith, there are a lot of other teams to cheer for.
OKC, Clippers, Heat , Bulls, Knicks, Warriors... Go do your thing, because the Buss family ain't going no where.
