I'm not sure it has ever been stated why. My thought was always that when Phil was coaching they didn't want any conflict of interest. Why did Jerry Buss give his doofus son the keys to the kingdom and not his daughter? Jeannie just seems so much more capable and intelligent than Jimmy Boy. I was just wondering if there was a reason.

Jeanie handles the business operations of the team while Jimmy handles the basketball side of the franchise.
KOBE. #VINO. BRYANT.

Oh look another "Blame Jim Buss" thread...
Pretty sure he is a huge part of the blame. More than anyone else. Just own the team and let Mitch do his job and quit meddling.

If we had CP3 had traded Gasol and Odom and landed D12 for Bynum you guys wouldn't be saying any of this. He deserves a portion of the blame yes, but not as much flak as he's been getting....theres one of these threads a day

hahahaha. Burn!As it has been stated, Dr. Buss is concerned with the potential cost of an inheritance tax when he passes away. By choosing Jim, he probably figures he will be able to lower the value of the club to five dollars. After the tax has been paid, Jeannie will take over and right the ship.

Jeane is the business side, Jim the basketball side.
Jim isn't the guy who injured Dwight, Jim isn't turning the ball over.
Stop with the STUPID JIM BUSS threads

See, this is what I can't stand at all.
We lose and stuff that has ZERO merit comes up.
Jim meddles and Mitch just takes it?
Jerry doesn't meddle and never has?
Y'all act like Jim is out there like Al Davis, Mark Cuban or Jerry Jones.
I can't understand why people can't blame Nash for not playing well... KObe for getting older and not being able to do the same things, Dwight for having a back surgery, and Pau for his knees giving out.
Jim isn't calling the freaking plays, and MANAGEMENT doesn't have to HIRE PHIL.
They fired Mike Brown when they thought HE was the problem.
It's more than coaching.
it's injuries, it's chemistry, it's confidence.
Some poor coaching decisions. Dwight has made crucial turnovers in a few of our losses.
Kobe as had bad shot selection down the stretch of a few of our losses.
Refs have not been fair in a couple losses(Joe Crawford)
Pau's lack of lateral quickness and strength cost us a few games.
It's not JUST coaching and ONLY Lakers fans talk about the front office this much.
It's ridiculous.

Jim's the reason we don't have Phil. That's enough for me.

Phil Jackson would solve a lot of this team's problems. Not just by installing a better system, but by managing their personalities, and giving them CONFIDENCE.
Jim's the reason we don't have Phil. That's enough for me.
All reports indicate it was Jerry Buss who didn't want Phil. He wanted SHowtime Part 2 before he passed away.
Jim actually rehired Phil in 2006.
I don't care anything about these type of threads anymore, but I do detest ignorance and finger-pointing.

If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.
You should reach more often

Thank you West Coast for answering my actual question. If I remember correctly, Jeanie Buss said herself that she's the business side of things and wouldn't be able to do everything involved with the day to day basketball operations.
No where in my OP did I indicate this thread was another "fire Jim Buss" thread. All I asked was why Jeannie didnt get the nod and Doofus did. I believe that Jeanie was more deserving because of her past history and dedication to the franchise. Thats it. Some of you need happy meds to chill the [expletive] out.
