What pisses me off? Phil wasn't really passed on for basketball reasons. That's BS.

If personal feelings influence your decision making to the point where it hurts your franchise, then maybe you shouldn't be in charge and that's to Jim, Jerry, whoever. It doesn't matter. Grow the eff up.

It was always said that the choosing of a head coach was a 3 person decision: Mitch, Jim, and Jerry.


I think many of us had a gut feeling this was the case, because at least Mitch isn't that dumb to hire D'antoni and Jim wants to win at all cost under his operations control. I also think that some of us believed that Jim swayed Jerry into choosing D'antoni. Plenty of theories, but all moot.

I guess the random midnight call to Phil explains it.

I still blame Jim for this crap of a coaching staff, which includes the assistants. Should have brought back Brian Shaw and Clark Kent.

whens the last time you guys heard Jerry speak? I recall a yr after they won the Finals last & he could barely speak. I thought he was supposed to be very ill. Why would he be making decisions if lil buss is in charge? You can believe the bullsheet I dont.

It was clear that Dwight wanted Phil and I have felt most of the season that the decision to hire D'Antoni over Phil was a bit of an emotional setback for Dwight.

Despite Jerry's greatness as an owner he's made a ton of poor coaching decisions

Bottom line is these players won't play for MD. It's been evident from the beginning. This BS spin from management about our roster fitting MD better is absurd at this point. The Lakers need someone with enough stroke to control the locker room and get these players involved. MB couldn't do it MD can't do it. Until this issue is correctly addressed we are effed plain and simple.

Maybe he just wants to take one for his son. Typical Father protecting Son treatment.

A possible explanation. There's also the rumors about Jim and Phil's supposed bad relationship. Just saying, but the hiring of Brown and MDA seems more like Jim's work rather than Jerry's, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

You could argue Jerry wanted showtime back though, and the reunion of Nash with MDA would bring that back to LA.

Everytime Jim makes a controversial decision, he says "Jerry was in on all discussions / Jerry had the final word." I, like many others, don't buy this for a second. Why would he say this? Isn't it obvious? Jerry is "immune" from attack from Laker fans, since he's brought us 16 championships. Most of us are still pretty skeptical of Jim at this point, so his rep can't the heat of a bad decision like Jerry's can.

I know a friend who is close to Don Sterling (friend of Jerry Buss) and thats what i've been told.

My apologies if so. Pure speculation on my part based on most of the things I've heard of him throughout his tenure.

my honest opinion, phil would've managed personalities, but this team was only gonna be a few wins betters, too many other glaring issues, phil can't be the saviour of every team (as we've seen with his failed championship run on his way out)
