Durant don't need Phil.
LeBron don't need Phil.
Chris Paul don't need Phil.

Lebron is not on this team
Chris Paul is not on this team
Those 3 players have a whopping ONE ring between them.

Really, the decision makers on this team have been awful.

jw, did Jim or Jerry ever specifically state whose decision it was to hire MDA?
No but there's been plenty of reports that state it was Jerry Buss.

The point is KOBE doesn't need PHIl...two coaches can't be the problem
Only one could hold a team back in my opinion

Hm, well unless one of them states it, or there is a very detailed report on it I'm going to stay in the middle on this one.

Phil knows how to handle talent, manage the egos and get the most out of them. There's no disputing that. So why you'd run over that with someone like D'Antoni instead is still completely beyond me.
It was a en ego play. Jerry and the Lakers brass didn't want to come crawling back to Phil to save them again. So they went the opposite direction of proven success - and now their giant investment is following suit.

Jordan never won without Phil either.

LeBron has One ring without those guys...oh yeah never mind Pat was thereMJ, Kobe, Pippen, Shaq have no rings without PJ and Pat Riley
But seriously,I HATE D'Antoni and still..we haven't seen Gasol play well until the past week and a half. They have only played together (The Big 4) 12 games. Now Kobe has DEAD legs and needs a BREAK honestly(D'Antoni's fault) and our bench has some problems that aren't entirely due to coaching.
I do think Larry Brown was the PERFECT choice beyond Phil.
Dwight as Ben Wallace
Pau as Rasheed( not as defensive minded, but a comparable talent)
Metta as Prince(I thought Ebanks may be able to fill that role as a rookie Prince)
Kobe as Rip( curls to get open mid -range jumpers FT line extended down)
Nash as Chauncey( hitting Big shots and putting everyone in place)
When we got Mike D, I thought "this clown just got chased out of NY" and his style never won. But then I thought, if Kobe and Dwight was on those teams they would have won.
I also thought, How many times can Phil bail us out?
So at some point we can blame D'Antoni but we can't keep depending on ONE guy, it does become a power struggle for a proud ownership group.

Maybe he just wants to take one for his son. Typical Father protecting Son treatment. No but there's been plenty of reports that state it was Jerry Buss.

Two coaches who r failures. Brown was fired in Cleveland and D'antoni failed in multiple places yet you don't want the best coach in sports history? Makes perfect sense.

If personal feelings influence your decision making to the point where it hurts your franchise, then maybe you shouldn't be in charge and that's to Jim, Jerry, whoever. It doesn't matter. Grow the eff up.
YOU DON'T PASS ON A MAN WITH ELEVEN RINGS FOR A PROVEN FAILURE OF A COACH.
