It's a good way to make sure Dwight doesn't record his first season as a Laker as a non-playoff year...which makes it likely it would be his last season as a Laker as well.

Also, it doesn't give Kobe more of an incentive to retire early.

Yep, I don't see this team winning 25 more games, let alone 30 more to get into the playoffs.

Unless some unforeseen collapse from the teams in the playoff hunt or some unlikely run from the Lakers happens, approximately 35 wins sounds rational to me for this team.

I can understand doubting 50 wins or even the 45 I truly predicted but to say we won't win over 35 or make the playoffs just doesn't make sense once you examine the schedule and consider NBA basketball.

The NBA season is a long evolving animal. Younger more atheltic teams always get off to fast starts while older vet teams get their legs and strategy together. Look at the San Antonio mid-to-late season runs in the past. How about Boston over the past couple years? And do you think we don't have more talent or ability to go on a run than the 2008 Rockets who won 22 straight?

Look at the West 5 seed down. GSW is 5-5 in their last 10. Denver is only 4 up in the loss column on us and they lost at home to the Wizards tonight. Utah only 3 up in the loss column. Portland is falling fast with 4 losses in a row. Houston? 6 games. 6 L's. Minnesota is done.

Lastly, if you thought 2004 was bad, this team not making the playoffs would be one of the biggest failures in the history of sports. Not one person in that locker room wants to be a part of that.

Come April when the talk is how unfair it is one of the top 4 seeds has to match up with us in the 1st round remember this thread.

Can't compare other seasons to what is going on now as far as being able to string wins together. Schedules, players, team strength, etc., way too many factors to make that comparison.

I agree not one person wants to be a part of that, but looking at the rest of the year, I feel its too late, that fate looks just about inevitable. Like I said before (in another thread I think), barring some ridiculous turnaround from this team or an utter collapse from one of the teams above them.

I appreciate the optimism, but realistically this team has to do work I don't see them being able to achieve in order to get to where you think they can be.

This team, this schedule and all that doesn't matter. We've all seen this team is capable of losing to any team, despite the record. Yet, they don't seem able to beat any team, despite their record. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see much positive happening with this team in the way of getting into the playoff picture. And if they do, D'Antoni may then stay (something the Lakers do not need) and they won't make it out of the first round whatsoever.

^ I guess no one in the locker room wants to be part of a non-playoff team ... sounds right. But then you watch them play and I come to the conclusion that they dont play like they care all that much. Watch what they do and the body language, not what they say.

Kobe plays 43 minutes, scores 26, Lakers lose. Ho hum, same ole story. No heart.

That's why I've been so harsh about this season. You could see this coming a month ago. Their body language is everything you don't want from a team (on any level) and their coach has no ability to do anything about it.
