The Phoenix Suns are discussing a trade for Rudy Gay with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to sources.
The Grizzlies have been shopping Gay to multiple teams around the NBA.
The Grizzlies have a strong desire to acquire Jared Dudley and a future first round pick.
Memphis has delivered trade proposals to several teams as they attempt to decrease their salary obligations for future seasons.
The Grizzlies' new front office and ownership has doubt on whether they are currently constructed to compete for a place in the Finals.

Lakers want Rudy Gay.
Sources?
The Lakers haven't been linked to Gay so it wouldn't surprise me to see a deal come out of nowhere for him. That has Kupchak written all over it
It really would help D'Antoni's system
Howard
Gay
Metta
Kobe
Nash

Edit: Ah I guess a 1st rounder from the Suns would be a pretty high pick..

@KBergCBS
In addition to conversations with Phoenix, Memphis has tried to engage Golden State in trade talks for Rudy Gay, league sources say.
@KBergCBS
The Grizzlies-Warriors talks stalled with Golden State's desire to include Richard Jefferson ($21m left over two years) in the deal.
I hope GS doesn't get into this:
Lee
Gay
Thompson
Curry
Those four alone make them tough

Damn it Memphis, QUIT DUCKING THE LAKERSI hope GS doesn't get into this:

If the Warriors are going after Gay, they're pretty much shipping Barnes out, right?

The BIGGEST names that came out then were Toronto and New York. And when it was announced WE got him, it was a shocker.
Same case could be here.
We could be all never assuming that it's gonna be Gay, and then BOOM we wake up one day and he's a Laker lol
That's how Mitch does it. Wouldn't be the first time Memphis has done this for us when a big man was down.

If we somehow land Dwight Howard AND Nash (which is one of the biggest reaches I've posted, don't think that will happen), then yeah...I have no problem with it, because Howard won't allow anyone to take Nash off the dribble 30+ minutes a game.
You should reach more often

Wouldn't you rather have Gasol Toronto? We'll take Gay, he'll like us better.

Rudy Gay is an upgrade over anyone playing the 3 for LA right now ... hard to see him ending up here unless it's a 3-way deal, and that opens up a ton of possibilities.
http://espn.go.com/n...tradeId=ax6rjsp
LAL gets: K. Love, J. Barrea
MEM gets: A. Kirilenko, D. Williams
MIN gets: P. Gasol, R. Gay, D. Morris
This is pipe, definitely a reach on my part, but that's what the trade machine is for.
If Memphis was reluctant to take back Jefferson, I have a hard time believing they take back Kirilenko, but he's arguably 2x the player, and Derrick Williams is a nice piece to get back as well. Draft picks (whatever is available) can also be sent there, since that seems to be a priority for them.
Lakers unload Morris for Barea who is much more fit for this system that D'Antoni insists on trying to run and we flip Pau for Love essentially. Somebody (nobody better than Mitch to do it) needs to take advantage of Memphis' value of Gay, which isn't all that high if Jared Dudley and a pick will supposedly get the job done.

Memphis should be busy this deadline ... word is they want to move Randolph as well (with Sacramento as a possibility). They have great pieces, but they're in a really bad spot out West ... not good enough to hang with the elite teams in the playoffs, yet not bad enough to blow everything up.
