You know the killer part, though? Does anyone honestly think this scrub coach would have turned down a one year deal with us?

And we HAVE one of the most underrated defensive coaches in the game Steve Clifford.

So underrated that I couldn't even tell you a single thing about him. I literally have no clue what this guy does/has done for our team to this point.

I think it's the players more than the coach. Again, this team wasn't good defensively under Mike Brown.

Significantly better, though. We were 6th in the NBA at one point, although that was around the time Bickerstaff took over.

That's what we get, though, for bringing in a coach that thinks an offensive system, ran by a 39-year old PG who doesn't draw as much attention anymore, can lead us to a top seed in the West without defensive play...thinking this particular team has the shooters, and the athleticism, to overcome other offensively-gifted teams with our own offense.

It also doesn't help that we have guys like Steve Nash, Pau Gasol, and Antawn Jamison on this team...who are three of the worst defensive players at their position.

forget that man phils agent was on his way to ACCEPT the offer but got called before the deadline no matter what anyone says there is friction between phil and jim to what extent who knows

Pretty much.

I'll take a stretch and say that Nash has played better than both Gasol and Jamison thus far this year and that is saying something.

You NEED to have players that understand how to play defense or all the coaching in the world isn't gonna help.

Forget defensive coordinator, fire the head coach.

Everyone wants to talk about offense but I don't think that's the biggest issue. Yes, we have problems on that end but the real issue is our guys are LOST on defense. Having a scheme in place puts players in position to succeed. It takes some of the guessing out of game...it makes the team faster because they react in unison.

That's not what I'm seeing on the court for the Lakers. That's why we are giving up so many points. That's why we have to work for hard on offense. That's why we are getting outrebounded.

If you are serious about winning a Championship this year, please find anyone to teach this group of individuals how to play defense together...

You're an idiot but that's fine.

When you can find a coach that turns Gasol into a stopper, makes Jamison a defensive force, and turns Steve Nash into Chris Paul defensively then I'll think you're smart.

What YOU need to get is that players that don't know how to play defensively or hedge things correctly aren't gonna become good overnight or even across an entire season.

That's NOT how it works.

At the end of the day your team still has Pau Gasol, Steve Nash, and Antawn Jamison whom are the bottom of the barrel in the NBA defensively at their positions.

This team only plays defense when the offense is really struggling for stretches and in late game/desperation situations.

They are always going to be playing close games and/or trailing except for when they are uncharacteristically hot from outside or when the other team is ice cold. Their defense is not winning them anything and most opponents are thrilled to play this style of game.

A lot of that has to do with our lineups as well, we had a defensive lineup with Hill/Dwight/Metta/Kobe

That's how we got back into said game the multiple times we did.

We lost it when we sat down Dwight(our rebounding went bye bye) and with Gasol in the 2nd half(who didn't look to score or D up)


SO our defense has a LOT to do with the lineups we run.

Which should be of no surprise to anyone.
