I'm not going to cite stats other than that of our five best players.
Kobe-MVP level year
Dwight-All Star Numbers while playing under appreciated D at a high level
Nash- Efficient offensive creator.
Metta- playing overall solid role player basketball.
PAU -...

I was thinking last night about our age and just our woes in general. PAU is that guy in my opinion who looks old.

The only one who looks that way. Metta hustles. Kobe goes hard for 38+ every night. Nash's injury recovery speed was the only thing that made him look old. Dwight aint dunking like he used to( and the West has way more competition) but we take his speed for granted as a team and some fans do too.

But Pau is the guy who looks old on defense, whether iso or help. He looks old on offense getting his shot blocked or when he has been robbed of all confidence.

Now this isn't to say we blame Pau for this record. But when he doesn't do his job, we try and get more from Metta and Meeks and so forth. Those type of chain reactions aren't good for a team. As our chemistry develops(Big 3 especially) I think we can't wait for Pau.
We have to treat Pau like Bynum was during the title run. We need his height in the playoffs, but we gotta play through Dwight and Kobe more and have Nash take on a little more as well.

Right now Hill deserves 24 or more minutes anyway so it's best for now and if some of Pau's performances woes deal in his knees and feet, he gets that rested too. His trade value is low, his contract is high.

When Pau was Center, LeBron got lay-up after lay-up.
No foot speed especially laterally

It's not like Jamison or World Peace has found the fountain of youth either.

What about MWP? This dude can't even stop his grandmother.

Arguably the greatest franchise ever

At least Metta can run and jump, even caught an alley oop this season.

I would love a better athlete at the 3 but Pau has no advantage at the 4 except height and can't use it properly.

Kobe is not having an MVP caliber year. His much heralded efficiency has come back to earth and he played one good game of defense.

^Yup.

And if Pau were the only or main issue on this team, being competitive with the Heat and actually beating lousy teams would be a reality. So I guess I debate the OP's premise.

This team, at the mid-way point of the season, has major issues. many of them related to age, one related to major injury and the rest related to a basic lack of skill. That's squarely on the GM- he created this fiasco. So all the bandaid/ trade deadline/ just good enough to be traded players maybe available is not going to cure what ails this team with deep, fundamental problems to solve.

Kobe deserved better than this in the latter part of his career. When the reality fully sets in on him and the other veterans that the season is lost, they may well turn on each other.

Kobe is averaging 30, 5, and 5 on 47 percent shooting. Sure he's had a few off games, but saying he hasn't had an MVP caliber year is idiotic.

When Pau was out there with Dwight to start the game we looked old and slow, when Earl Clark was out there with Dwight we had life.

I saw their PFs outrun Pau in transition.

KOBE is playing too many minutes, so he does slow down, but overall Kobe has had a Kobe season.

Pau did look much better without Dwight in the game though

I guess it shows Pau is a Centre, and should be playing there. As we have Dwight, it cancels him out.

If we loose Dwight, I'd much rather have Pau than most of the Centres out there. We'll see what happens..

This. Especially for a 17 year veteran. And he hasn't been THAT bad on defense people just immediately point it out because it's the first thing you see after our opponent makes a basket. I remember Real Deal had a post a few weeks ago saying Kobe has been the best defensive player on our team this year, so, yeah...

Pau played great yesterday. Thast only because he played center and more in the post which is his game.
